Belleville Wrestling Club

BWC HISTORY

2010 was the inaugural season of the Belleville Wrestling Club (BWC). At that time, the mission of the club was to advance the sport of wrestling in our community by providing an atmosphere for our youth to learn the basic fundamentals of folkstyle wrestling. As they grow they will move to more advanced techniques and styles to satisfy their desire to continue and improve upon the skills they possess.

We started with 32 wrestlers that year who made a great showing at the novice level events in the MYWAY East Region, and placed a respectable 7th place at the Future Stars Tournament which highlights the newest wrestlers in the region. We also had 3 wrestlers earn a trip to the state championship tournament in Battle Creek.

Since then our club has sustained continual grown in size and strength year after year. Many of our wrestlers are moving up in the ranks at the high school and collegiate levels where they continue down the path of success, as students, athletes, employees and members of the community. Check out the Hall of Fame page to see a list of wrestlers who have earned high wrestling honors as representatives of the BWC. We've added Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling styles, which is more common in international and Olympic competition as a way to further expand the training and development of our wrestlers. Will your son or daughter be the next state or national champion?

The coaching staff has seen several changes throughout our short lifetime, and each change opened the opportunity for another coach to step up and take the lead role, devoting his time and energy to develop the wrestlers who came into practice every week to improve their skills. The head coach is continually backed by a squad of assistant coaches of varying experience levels to help guide the wrestlers at practice and tournaments. Egos are checked at the door allowing the coaching staff to move forward as one cohesive unit, always keeping the mission of the BWC as the primary objective.

The administrative team has grown from a husband & wife duo to a four member board and countless parents and guardians who volunteer their time to help make the club a success whenever necessary. Fundraisers, tournaments, parades, club and community events - when we needed help, the members never failed to respond.

Our mission statement has been modified over the years, but the focus on the basic fundamentals of wrestling remains the same.

  • Train, guide and mentor the youth of our community through the disciplines of wrestling.
  • Develop general physical and mental fitness in the youth of our community
  • Instill qualities of discipline, hard work and dedication

This is still a community based organization, built upon the foundation to provide the youth an opportunity to learn and participate in one of the oldest and truest sports in the world. We are proud of the work we have done and invite you to join us and become member of this growing BWC family.
