Del Rey American Little League

Volunteer

Del Rey American Little League is a completely volunteer organization. That means without the countless hours of dedication by parents, grandparents, and friends, our kids would not be able to have so much fun playing baseball.

Little League Baseball is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership, preparing today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders. Little League relies heavily on a devoted legion of adult volunteers to help ensure the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. Del Rey American Little League is completely a volunteer organization. This means without countless hours of dedication by parents, grandparents, and friends, this league would not exist for our kids to play and enjoy the game of baseball.

By signing your child up to play in this all-volunteer organization it will be expected that you will give some of your time and talents to the league.  We know that it can be very difficult for some of you but there is always something that can be done morning and night, weekdays and weekends. If you don't know what to do, don't be afraid to ask. Sometimes we just need someone to put a ball on the batting tee for the kids to warm up.

Here are some of the many positions we need to fill every year:

Managers
Being a manager or coach requires time, patience, and basic knowledge of the game of baseball. While communicating positively, you will teach the fundamentals and rules of baseball with weekly practices and games. As you direct your players in competition, you will help them develop character, good sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle.

Assistant Coaches
Assist the managers during practices and games. Help with field set-up, maintenance, and coaching.

Umpires
Aside from calling ball or strike, safe or out, umpires are responsible for teaching players good sportsmanship and the rules of the game. Umpires are also called upon to interpret rules and help settle minor disputes that may occur during games.

Team Parents
Communicate with the parents/guardians of your players to inform them of schedules, upcoming events, and announcements. You create and manage the snack stand schedule for your team. You will also create a DRALL Ball auction basket and collect money and headcounts for Dodger Day and other league events.

Field Set Up and Clean Up
Help maintain the fields by watering, chalking, raking, mowing, etc.

Scorekeeper
The scorekeeper's primary responsibility is to keep the book and accurately record a game's score. The scorekeeper will also keep the updated score on the scoreboard.

Announcer
Sit in the booth and make announcements during the game, introduce players, and inform spectators about upcoming events and sponsors. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance, Little League Pledge, and parent pledge at the beginning of the game.

Snack Stand Duty
As a league, we all share the duties of concession volunteering. Together, we help manage the concessions providing refreshments to our fans and players. This includes preparing and selling food and beverages (i.e., grilling burgers, making French fries, baking cookies, etc.) as well as set-up and clean-up at the end of the shift. A typical shift is 3 hours. Each player's family is responsible for working at least 3 (three) snack stand shifts for EACH player registered in the league.
