The
Tornadoes have provided an excellent basketball program for the youth of
St. Therese for over 40 years.
Overview
Our mission is to
teach children to play and love the game of basketball, while developing a
sense of teamwork, discipline and improving each player’s ability to play the
game.
Tornadoes
Basketball is a program of St. Therese Parish in Cresskill, NJ. Teams play in
the highly competitive Northern Valley Parochial League.
Eligibility:
Open to all Academy of St.
Therese students or children enrolled in the St. Therese religious education
program in grades 2-8 are invited to join.
Teams and Player Selection
St.
Therese Tornadoes field teams in three divisions: Pee Wee, Junior Varsity and
Varsity. Our Pee Wee program is instructional and every member of the team will play. The JV and Varsity programs are competitive and played with a balance between winning and learning. Playing time is at the discretion of our coaches, based on effort, attendance, skill, position, game situation and other factors.
Program Costs
The CYO program is intended to be affordable.
Volunteers
Teams are coached by volunteers and supported through
the volunteer efforts of parents working the snack stand, running the clock,
fundraising, and helping to set up/clean up the gym. The season begins late
November with practice (generally twice per week) and games running through March. This
is a travel program; parents must transport the children to/from all games.
Our program would
not be possible without the support and volunteer efforts of the
parents. Please consider getting involved to support your children
and the program. Show your appreciation to our coaches by communicating with
them if your child can not attend a practice or a game. We hope that all
of our families will come to the games and cheer on all of our teams, at all
levels and in all brackets.
