NEARTOWN LL CLOSING DAY WAS A: GRAND SLAM

After multiple cancellations, the 3rd time was a charm for our Closing Day celebration event that was finally held on sunny Sunday, June 13th, from 3:30-6:00 p.m.  The NLL Board of Directors conducted their Annual Board Meeting and approved the slate of Board Directors and Board Officers for 2021-2022 (listed below).  There are a few opened positions, so please consider joining and helping Neartown LL be successful.

All-Star players for the Minors, Machine Pitch, and Coach Pitch divisions were announced and presented with a cap and medal.  (Note: All-Star players are chosen by their teammates who vote for the top (2-3) players on their team.)

Blue Gray Tournament teams were also announced along with competition standings.  Big time kudos go to our Neartown LL Majors team who won the Blue Gray tournament division! 

Tournament Teams:

Michael DeGeurin, who umpired the Machine Pitch games received a special “Coach” award where he spoke about the new program he has started where a group of Neartown LL alumni players return to the league as volunteer umpires.  If you have aged out of Neartown LL (13+) and wish to volunteer your time and learn more about umpiring games, please contact Michael at [email protected].

Neartown LL baseball season would not be as much fun without the cool refreshing SnoBunny SnoBalls by Rob and Leslie Wubbenhorst and Yummy Popcorn and treats provided by HEB & Trey and Nancy Christensen.  Thank you!!!

Special appreciation awards were given to prior NLL President Scott Palermo and to current President Shannon Petrick in recognition of their wonderful contributions to the league.  A special award was given to our MVP and “unsung hero” Dawn Mena.  She is the backbone of our league and has been a part of Neartown LL since it began. Thank you for all you do.

Neartown LL had an exciting and successful Home Run Derby which brought out a lot of talent. Congratulations to our Home Run Derby Winners:

TeeBall / Coach Pitch -Lanham Dugan 
Machine Pitch / Minors- Alister McClanahan
Majors / Middle School – Joshua Petrick
High School / Above – David Petrick

While the derby was going on, other NLL players lined up to throw their best pitches to sink Coaches Nathan Hennessey, Cris Bera, and Miles Romm in the dunk tank.

Neartown LL and the Ervan Chew Park community would greatly benefit from a Sunshade at the Will Weber Baseball Field. Remember, Neartown LL is happy to help fund the sunshade. 

Overall Closing Day 2021 was a great success.  We look forward to our upcoming Fall Season and Spring Season 2022.  Here’s wishing all of our Neartown LL Players and Player Families a safe and wonderful summer
