Frequently Asked Questions

·      When do sign-ups start and end?

o   Answer:  Sign-ups begin in early October and run through January 31st for the spring baseball season.

·      When does the season start and end?

o   Answer:  Regular season games typically begin around the first of April and end the first week of June.  For AAA Minors and above teams that win their regular season division and advance to tournament, the season is extended a few weeks later into June.

·      What about all-stars?

o   Answer:  If your child is chosen to play on the all-star team, practices and games may extend well into July or later if the team continues to win.  If players accept the invitation to all-stars they are expected to remain with the team until they are eliminated from play.

·      When do practices start and how often do they practice?

o   Answer:  Practices begin the first week of March.  T-ball and coach pitch teams will typically practice 2 days per week until games begin and then may drop down to 1 practice per week.  AA Minors and AAA Minors teams typically practice 2 or 3 days per week.  Majors and Juniors teams will typically practice 3 days per week.

·      What days are the games?

o   Answer:  All teams will play games on Saturdays.  T-ball and coach pitch will play almost all games on Saturdays, with a few weekday games During the second half of the season.  AA Minors teams play games on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  AAA Minors teams play games on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Majors teams play games on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Juniors teams typically play games on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

·      How old does my child have to be to play?

o   Answer:  Amador County West Little League allows players that are league age 4 to 14 to play.  A player must turn 4 before September 1st of the year that they will be playing in order to be considered. (The player does not have to be 4 when the season starts to be considered league age 4.). Please see the age chart to find your child's league age.

·      What division should my child play in?

o   If your child is league age 4 or 5, they must play t-ball.

o   If your child is league age 6 and it is their first year, they must play t-ball.

o   If your child is league age 6 and played t-ball as a five year old, we recommend they play coach pitch.

o   If your child is league age 7, they must play coach pitch.

o   If your child is league age 8, we recommend that they play AA Minors, but a parent may elect to keep them in coach pitch if they struggled in coach pitch as a 7 year old or if they are a first year player.

o   If your child is league age 9, they must play Minors.  Depending on ability they will be drafted into either AAA or AA Minors.  Regardless of which division you sign your child up for, they will be drafted into an appropriate division based on a skills assessment.

o   If your child is league age 10, they must play at least Minors, but may be drafted into Majors.  Depending on ability they will be drafted into either AAA or AA Minors.  Regardless of which division you sign your child up for, they will be drafted into an appropriate division based on a skills assessment.

o   If your child is league age 11, they will be drafted into either Majors or Minors.  If you sign your 11-year-old up for Majors, but they are not drafted by a Majors team, they will be placed in the player pool to be drafted into a Minors division.

o   If your child is league age 12, they must play Majors.  They will be drafted onto a Majors team.

o   If your child is league age 13, they must play Juniors.

o   If your child is league age 14, they must play Juniors.

There are a few rare exceptions to these age rules and exceptions must be approved by the ACLLW board and sometimes by the Little League District Administrator.
