Coaches

 Mike Peterson
Coach

Mike was a 3x ND High School State Champion, 1x runner up, and an Asics and Wrestling USA High School All American, a member of Team USA in Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic, a four year wrestler at the US Military Academy in West Point, and holds a certificate as a USA Wrestling Copper Certified Coach.

When we asked Coach Mike what his favorite part of being a youth wrestling coach is, he said, "I really enjoy teaching our young kids the sport of wrestling and seeing them learn and develop throughout the season. I view it as a privilege to be a coach and to be able to have an impact on a young kid's development."

 Mark Muhlstein
Coach

Mark began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the St. Paul Freestyle Club. Mark started coaching in the Maple Grove community three years ago when his son joined the team as a kindergartner. This year, his son and daughter will both be wrestling for the Crimson youth team.

Growing up in Iowa, Mark was a top 6-ranked high school wrestler and a 2x conference champ.
When asked for the best advice he received from a wrestling coach, Mark said, "Wrestling is 50% mental and 50% physical. You have to work on and practice both of those to beat the best."

 Mike Kisch
Coach

Mike was a 1x SD AAU State Champion, won 3rd place in the National AAU Folkstyle Championships, was a 2x SD State Qualifier, and a 5 year Varsity Wrestler at Yankton High School in Yankton, SD.

We asked Mike what advice he has for young wrestlers, and he said, "Keep moving!" When asked what he's most excited about this season, Coach Mike said, "Reinforcing the team aspect of the sport, watching the kids develop relationships forged in sweat as they push each other to be the best they can be!"
In addition to coaching, Mike serves as Vice President of the Maple Grove Wrestling Club and he's the talent behind all of our design work.

 Tamar Boone
Assistant coach

Tamar has been an awesome coach for the local football and wrestling community. You’ll see him at many practices and supporting our wrestlers mat-side at many weekend tournaments.

“My favorite part about being a wrestling coach is seeing the kids grow and develop form the beginning of the year to the end,” says Tamar.

The best advice he got from a wrestling coach?
“The best advice I got from a wrestling coach was just to be fearless. Win or lose, as long as you gave it your all, there’s nothing to be upset about.”

 Pat Dorn
Assistant coach

Pat wrestled varsity three years for Osseo; 90-91, 91-92, 92-93. He then wrestled in college for University of Saint Thomas from 96-97, 97-98.

Pat has been helping coach Youth wrestling for the last seven years, since his son Aiden started wrestling when he was in Kindergarten.
Pat enjoys seeing the kids learn the moves and become better wrestlers. The sport of wrestling  is beneficial to everybody, and Pat would like to see our club grow strong with a large group of youth athletes.

 Mike Brown
Assistant coach

 Brad Griffore
Assistant coach

As a late comer to wrestling (9th grade) Brad was able to establish himself quickly by getting ranked by The Guillotine in the top 10 in the state of Minnesota within 2 years of starting the sport.

As a Chiropractor Brad credits these years of wrestling for the drive that allowed him to pursue a Doctorate in Chiropractic. With a private practice located in Maple Grove he has been able to use much of the body control experience he learned on the mat while working with and treating patients on a daily basis. Dr. Brad wrestled Varsity for Maple Grove ’03-’06.

Black Mattson
Assistant Coach

Blake comes to the Maple Grove Youth Wrestling Program with amateur wrestling experience in Greco Roman, Freestyle and Folkstyle. Blake was a part of the Maple Grove Senior Highschool Wrestling Team from 2000-2005 wrestling as a member of the Varsity Team all 6 years of his attendance at Maple Grove. Blake has a 4 ½ year old son Spencer Mattson that is also participating in the youth wrestling program.

Blake looks forward to working with each youth wrestler in assisting them with developing strong wrestling fundamentals that allow them to compete with confidence, while enjoying their time on the Mat. Blake lives in Maple Grove and looks forward to participating regularly at practice and tournaments/duals as a coach and mentor.

Troy Seubert
High School coach

Troy has been on the Maple Grove High School coaching staff going on 16 seasons including the last 14 as the head coach. During this time, the team has earned many individual and team honors including earning the first section championships in school history (2010, 2014).

As a competitor Troy was a state qualifier and team captain at Maple Grove before earning four Varsity letters and serving as a team captain at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.

Troy has experienced personally, and as a coach, the positive difference wrestling can have in an athlete’s life. Passing these life lessons along to each athlete is what Troy loves most about coaching wrestling. He is also very excited about helping to create synergy and build the relationship between the high school and youth programs.

Troy currently has two sons who wrestle with the youth program (and a 3rd who will in a couple years).
