Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you allow both boys and girls to play?
YES!! We allow both boys and girls within all BASEBALL teams on our league, but SOFTBALL is for GIRLS ONLY.
Can we register even though this year's registration is closed?
Yes, however you must understand that all late registrations are subject to approval. If you have any questions please email [email protected] PRIOR to registering.
I would like to register my child for a different division than their birthday allows on this site. Can I?
Yes, possibly. You'll need to register and enter them in the default division, then email [email protected] and explain why your child needs to be put in a different division.
What do I need to purchase for my child to participate?
You will need to purchase a glove and either tennis shoes or NON-Metal cleats. PYBL will supply you with a shirt, pants, and hat for the uniform, bats, helmets, and balls. You are welcome to purchase your own helmet and bat if your child would prefer.
When will practices begin?
League Practice will begin on ALL fields in MID to Late APRIL and will continue until the first week or so in May. After that, no other practices are scheduled. If your coach opts to practice during league play dates, it's up to them to schedule a field and get the team together.
When does league play begin for 2019?
League Play will usually be middle of May (at the end of practice schedule) and will continue until just before the July 4th holiday. Double A and Triple A Divisions will have a tournament the final week of June. T-ball and Single A Baseball will have regular game play. Softball tournaments are to be determined later in the season.
If the weather is bad, how will I know whether the games/practices are cancelled?
For weather related updates during the season, please call the Baseball Hotline @ 319-343-7925. It will be updated AFTER 4:30pm for weather related cancellations.
Will my child get a trophy or medal for being a part of PYBL?
T-Ball and Single A Baseball kiddos get a participation medal on all PYBL teams. Walford and Ely team members will need to check with them. Double A and Triple A teams will play a tournament at the end of the season and the top three places in each division will receive a medal or trophy (TBD). Softball T-Ball girls will all get a participation medal. Softball (OLDER girls) will be ranked for the entire season and will be medaled per division.I'd like to help coach. What do I need to do?Log into your account and complete that portion of your registration. If you have any difficulties, please email [email protected] for assistance.
What requirements do you have for your coaches and parent helpers?
ALL Parents/Coaches/Helpers MUST pass a background check. PRBSA pays for them, but they are required and you are not allowed on the field side of the fence or in the dugout unless and until you have completed and passed yours. Once you register and note that you'd like to help out, a link will be sent to you to enter your own information. Once the background check is complete you'll be emailed with those results. IF for any reason you do not pass the background check, it will take a board vote to have you approved.
May I sponsor a specific team?
YES!! We welcome all businesses to sponsor a team. Click the link at the bottom of this page, download and complete the form, and mail it to the address at the bottom of the form, along with your check. You'll be contacted soon to ask for your company logo. Sponsorship gets your name and logo on a FULL team of jerseys, and a team picture at the end of the season that you can display in your business.
Where must I live in order to register my child to play for PYBL?
We require that you live in Cedar Rapids, Ely or Walford. Your child should attend Prairie Schools, and yes, we allow home schooled children to participate as well. Outside of the Prairie School area is on a case by case basis and must be approved PRIOR TO your registering your child.
I have registered my child, what happens next?
Once registration closes, the board will separate and roster the teams and assign coaches. Your coach will be the next person to contact you with your schedule, team name, and introduction.
My older child is too old to now play in the PYBL club, is there any opportunity for him to participate?
YES! We hire umpires and we're always in need of more!! If your older child would be interested, have them email us for more info.
I'd like to be an umpire. Who do I contact about that?
Please email [email protected] for more information.
I'd like to be a board member. How do I make that happen?
Please email [email protected] for more information. We are always in need of help. Board members, Coaches, parents, sponsors are all welcome!!
Do you offer team and individual pictures for purchase?
YES!! We have an amazing photographer, Halverson's Photography. Photos will be scheduled within the first two weeks OF LEAGUE PLAY. Visit the website for more information. Your coach will have a form you'll need to complete and order from. ALL kids are encouraged to be there on photo night even if you choose not to order any, for the team pictures!
Can my children be all on the same team?
YES! IF they are within the age range of the division you're requesting. Please note that in your registration form. If you forgot, simply email [email protected] ASAP and we'll do our best so long as their ages are within the age ranges.
Can I request a specific coach?
You are welcome to ask but we make NO promises. Coaches are assigned after registration is complete. IF you had a specific coach last year, and they are coaching the same age this year, OR if they move up and your child does too, just make that note on your registration or email [email protected] and we'll see what we can do.If I register online MUST I also attend a registration night at the high school?
NO!! Only one or the other is necessary, however, if you want to pay by credit card you MUST register online, and you're welcome to visit the in person registration to try on uniforms and make any adjustment to your registration needed. Soon, we will be making ONLINE registration a requirement. 2020 Season Update: We are doing ALL registrations online and at this time, NO IN PERSON night is scheduled.
What do I do if the uniform I ordered does not fit?
Email [email protected] ASAP with the name of the child, the team name, and what specifically is not fitting. SHIRTS are NOT swapped for free if it was the size YOU ordered on your order form. (You are welcome to purchase another shirt if you'd like) PANTS ARE swappable so long as they HAVE NOT BEEN WORN outside, and you still have the barcoded package they came in. Then, we'll put you in touch with our uniform representative to make any changes in pants that are needed.
If I choose the wrong division, how do I make that change?
Email [email protected] ASAP with the name of the child, the division they're currently in, the one you'd like to move them to, and the reason for the change. WE WILL DO OUR BEST. BUT... it's important that you email quickly before uniforms are ordered. If it's after uniforms are ordered, you'll be responsible for purchasing another shirt that matches the new team. Pants and hats are the same. Unless there is a specific and NECESSARY reason, we will NOT transfer your child to another team within the same division.
