JOHN DOWNEY, Director

John started coaching in 1986 with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO).  He continued with Rose City Volleyball Club (Portland, OR) and Central Catholic High School (Portland, OR) from 1999 to 2015; coaching 12u, 14u and 18u.  Additionally, John was employed as the USA Volleyball (USAV) Regional Commissioner for the CEVA from 2003 to 2007, where he managed all adult and youth USA Volleyball for Oregon and Southwest Washington.  John founded the Willamette Volleyball Classic Tournament in 2007, with Oregon State University Volleyball Coaches Terry Liskevych & Mark Barnard.  He remains the tournament co-director.  John has attended multiple volleyball trainings through USA Volleyball, as well as the Art of Coaching Volleyball with Russ Rose (Penn State), John Dunning (Stanford) and Terry Liskevych (Oregon State).

After moving to Klamath Falls in 2015, John accepted head coaching positions with the Basin Bombers VBC and Mazama High School. He now is the Club Director for Basin Bombers VBC and continues to coach Junior Girls Volleyball.




ANDREW "AC" CLIFTON, Board Member

AC is currently the Head Volleyball Coach at Oregon Tech (NAIA).  Before coaching at Oregon Tech, Clifton spent the two seasons at Mt. Hood Community College (Gresham, OR).  Prior to being hired at Mt. Hood Community College, Clifton was the assistant women’s volleyball coach at the University of Portland (NCAA Division I).  Before heading to University of Portland, Coach Clifton was the first assistant coach for California State University, Monterrey Bay (NCAA Division II).  Prior to coaching at CSUMB, Andrew was the owner and director of Roots Volleyball Club and assistant director of High Line Boys Volleyball Club in Southern California.

AC is entering his third year as a coach for BBVC and continues his tenure as a BBVC Board Member.  AC also provides coaching clinics, mentorship and assistance to the entire BBVC coaching staff.  AC is active in growing the sport of volleyball in the Klamath Basin.

 

MACKENZIE OSOSKE

This is Mackenzie's first year as a coach with BBVC and we are delighted to have her!  Mackenzie has been playing volleyball for 8 years.  She was a varsity starter and 2-year captain at Beaverton High School.  Mackenzie has played for multiple clubs within the CEVA region: Athena, OJVA, and Hiki No.  In addition to Mackenzie's skills on the court, she also plays competitive beach volleyball.  Mackenzie competed in the Seaside Beach tournament and previously walked away with 3rd place in the Doubles Division.

Mackenzie currently attends Oregon Tech and is continuing her volleyball career.  This 6-3 freshman plays Right Side/Opposite for the Hustlin' Owls.  We look forward to Mackenzie helping our players improve their offensive and blocking skills.

TONIA BROWN, Board Member

Tonia is currently an Assistant Coach for Oregon Tech Volleyball.  She has coached for BBVC for the last two seasons; coaching 18u and 16u CEVA teams.  Tonia was instrumental in the founding of Basin Bombers Volleyball Club and continues to be a board member. 

Prior to Oregon Tech and BBVC coaching, Tonia spent 7 years as the Head Volleyball Coach at Henley High School. In 2016, her team placed 6th at the OSAA 4A State Volleyball Tournament.  Tonia  was also an Assistant Volleyball Coach at Mazama High School, a Head Coach for Henley Middle School and a club coach through Klamath River Volleyball Club.  Tonia previously ran the Klamath YMCA volleyball program.  Tonia has attended advanced coaching clinics at the University of Washington and Portland State University.

 
 

IRELAND BENNETT

Ireland Bennett returns to BBVC after coaching during the 2018-19 season and providing individual/small group development to players in the off season.  Ireland attended Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Nevada.  While at Spanish Springs, Ireland was a Varsity starter, playing a different position each year - Libero, Right Side/Opposite, Outside, and Middle.  She appeared in Regional Playoffs her Junior and Senior years.  Ireland also played volleyball for Northern Nevada Juniors Volleyball Club for 5 years.  Her 18u team made it to the USAV National Championship Tournament in Dallas, Texas.  Ireland is now continuing her volleyball career at Oregon Tech as a Middle Hitter.  She has helped coach 13u and 14u teams through Nevada Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club, as well as has coached at camps in both Nevada and at Oregon Tech.  Ireland says, "I am so excited to help volleyball grow as a sport in Klamath Falls.  I hope to be able to use my knowledge and love for the game to help your daughters grow not only as players, but as individuals as well." 


SAM FENNER, Board Member

Sam has coached youth volleyball in the Klamath Basin for the last 8 years with the YMCA, High Desert Volleyball Club (10u), and Basin Bombers Volleyball Club (10u, 12u, 14u - AAU & CEVA). She also coached at Henley Middle School and currently coaches at Mazama High School. Sam spent the last 4 years as the Willamette Volleyball Classic Volleyball Tournament Co-Director.  Sam also coaches volleyball annually at the Oregon State University Volleyball Camp under the direction of Mark Barnard (2017 Pac-12 Coach of the Year).

In addition to coaching for Basin Bombers Volleyball Club, she also serves as a member of the board.


 

HANNAH CAREY

Hannah returns to BBVC after coaching 14u AAU during the 2018-19 season and running BBVC Beach Clinics for the 2019 season.

Hannah has been playing volleyball for 12 years.  She was a 4-year varsity starter and captain at Scappoose High School.  Hannah played club volleyball for Athena Volleyball Club (Portland) as well played competitive beach volleyball (AAU & USAV tournaments).  Hannah is currently a defensive specialist for Oregon Tech.  Prior to that she played right side and setter.  Hannah previously coached beach volleyball through Portland Junior Beach Volleyball for 3 years.  Hannah says, "I look forward to making strong connections with your athletes, building them up mentally, and physically, and teaching them lessons they can use later in life."


 

ANNEKE GRIFFITH

Anneke Griffith is a doctor of physical therapy, currently working at Lake District Hospital Rehabilitation. She was a member of the 2002 Lakeview High School 3A State Volleyball Champion team, and has been playing volleyball since she was 12 years old. Although she did not pursue a volleyball scholarship in college, she was recruited. Instead, Anneke got her undergraduate education at Oregon State University and was a member of the volleyball club there. She traveled to national competitions and regional tournaments around the west coast. Anneke had coaching experience for leadership teams and directing conventions for 2000+ high school students for 5 years. During her doctorate program and after, she participated in community volleyball leagues and won several city championships. Anneke has been busy starting a family over the last several months, but she is excited to be back in her hometown helping to grow the volleyball program. 


 
 

JASON TUCKER, Board Member

Jason has coached 12u and 14u volleyball for Basin Bombers for the last 6 years. He has also coached middle-school volleyball for Triad for 3 years.  Additionally, Jason has spent many years coaching youth volleyball through the YMCA.  In 2017, Jason accepted a position on the Basin Bombers Volleyball Club’s Board of Directors.  Jason is no stranger to competitive sports, as growing up he played competitive baseball.  His baseball career took him to Oregon Tech and College of the Redwoods.  Jason says, “It is an honor for me to work alongside such great people that have a heart and passion for youth sports (specifically volleyball) in the Klamath Basin.”


MELODY EDWARDS

Melody returns to coach for BBVC after coaching during the 2018-19 season.  Melody is a 6'3 Middle Blocker for Oregon Tech.  She graduated from El Dorado High School where she led her Varsity Volleyball team to the California State Playoffs.  Melody also spent summers coaching volleyball camps in Placentia, California.  Melody began her club volleyball experience with California's Impact Volleyball Club (Pleasanton, CA) and then moved to Golden West Volleyball Club (Anaheim, CA) where she played both Middle Blocker and Right Side/Opposite.  Melody is excited to be a part of local girls pursuing an interest in volleyball!



AMANDA EDWARDS

Amanda returns to coach for BBVC after coaching during the 2018-19 season.  Amanda is a 6'3 Middle Blocker for Oregon Tech.  She plans to major in Bio-Health Sciences and become an Anesthesiologist.  She graduated from El Dorado High School where played Right Side/Opposite and Middle Blocker.  In Amanda's senior year of high school she had a minor setback when she broke her ankle.  She worked hard to overcome her injury and play collegiate volleyball.  Amanda began her club volleyball experience with California's Impact Volleyball Club (Pleasanton, CA) and then moved to Golden West Volleyball Club (Anaheim, CA).  Amanda also previously spent summers coaching volleyball camps in Placentia, California.  Amanda is very interested in teaching other girls the sport because "volleyball is a fun way to learn leadership, being a good teammate and overall having a good time."



BRIAN BROWN

Brian is currently an Assistant Coach for Oregon Tech Volleyball.  He has coached for BBVC for the last two seasons; coaching 18u and 16u CEVA teams.  

Prior to Oregon Tech and BBVC coaching, Brian spent 7 years coaching at Henley High School.  In 2016, the team placed 6th at the OSAA 4A State Volleyball Tournament.  Brian also coached for Henley Middle School.  Prior to coaching volleyball, Brian spent time coaching football in the Klamath Basin.  Brian has attended advanced coaching clinics at the University of Washington and Portland State University.

 

KALANI KOLII

Kalani returns to BBVC this year after spending the 2018-19 season coaching a 14u AAU team with great success.  In addition to coaching for BBVC, Kalani is an Assistant Coach at Mazama High School.  He specializes in reinforcing fundamental skills and growing the love for the game.

Kalani’s career started in 1988 where he played in the Military Intramurals in Fairbanks, Alaska.  He was accepted on the Fairbanks Regional AA Volleyball team and played for 7 years.  During his tenure, he received numerous recognitions as a player.  He also coached both the women’s and co-ed teams for the City of Fairbanks Volleyball traveling teams for 7 years.  Kalani received his coaching certification through USBVA and later was certified to officiate.
 
Kalani left the volleyball arena due to his military career but is excited to be back in the game as
 a coach.
 

 JAYLEE KAHL

Jaylee bridged the gap between player and coach during the 2018-19 season when she joined BBVC as a student intern coach.  This year Jaylee has returned to coach for the 2019-20 season.  Jaylee is no stranger to the Basin Bombers.  The prior Varsity Middle Blocker for Henley High School began playing volleyball in the 2nd grade.  In addition to playing at Henley High School, Jaylee played 2 years on BBVC's 14u AAU team and 3 years on BBVC's CEVA 18u team.  Jaylee said, "I always looked up to high school girls and wanted to be one of the girls on the Varsity team.  This year I decided to volunteer to be a coach to help your daughter become that girl on Varsity that everyone looks up to."  Jaylee looks forward to working with the BBVC coaching staff, parents and especially the players! 


 

MARISSA McGINNIS

Marissa returns to BBVC this year after spending the 2018-19 season coaching a 12u AAU team.  Marissa also is part of the coaching staff for Mazama Volleyball.  

Marissa began playing volleyball at age 12, making it very exciting for to coach  BBVC's 12-Green team.  Marissa not only played volleyball in high school (Mazama) but also played club volleyball for Basin Bombers throughout her high school years.  After high school, Marissa continued playing adult club volleyball through Western Oregon University (Monmouth, OR), before transferring her education back to Klamath Falls. 

Marissa says, "I am so excited to be able to be a part of this BBVC experience - as a coach this time.  I can't wait to teach these young ladies not only to become better players individually, but also how to work together as a team.


 
 

SIMONE LEAKS

Simone comes to Klamath Falls from the Salem area.  She has played volleyball since she was 12 years old.  Simone attended North and South Salem High Schools where she was a varsity hitter all 4 years.  Simone received multiple honors, both on the volleyball court and in the classroom.  

Simone also played club volleyball for North Pacific Juniors (NPJ) as a right side.  She continued her volleyball career into college where she played as a middle blocker for Oregon Tech.  This is Simone's first year coaching and she is beyond excited to be part of the BBVC coaching staff!

 

 
ASHLEY RIPPLINGER

Ashley is coaching for her first year as an assistant for the 18-1 USAV/CEVA team.  She has played volleyball for 7 years.  She was a varsity starter at Prosser High School (Prosser, Washington) where she earned a league MVP honor during her senior season.

Additionally, Ashley played club volleyball for Columbia Juniors (16u) and Shockwave (18u) and played for their national-level teams. Ashley played in the Evergreen Region of USAV Volleyball and is familiar with the Power League structure.

Ashley currently plays volleyball for Oregon Tech and is the starting 6'1" Middle Blocker.  
 

JAN PHELPS

Jan has been coaching in Klamath Falls for 10 years. Most recently she just finished up her 4th season at Klamath Union High School. Prior to KUHS she has coached for Ponderosa Middle school and the YMCA.  Jan’s favorite part of coaching volleyball is teaching the mental side to the game.  Her hopes that the skills they learn about strategy and mental toughness will translate into other areas of her players lives and help them to face future challenges.

AMANDA POWLEY

Amanda comes to Klamath Falls from North Bend, Oregon.  Amanda attended North Bend High School was a four-year starting varsity setter and four-year captain.  Amanda was nominated MVP three out of her four years in high school.  Amanda received 1st Team All Conference honors her sophomore through senior year.

Amanda played club volleyball for Pirates Volleyball Club, North Bend Volleyball Club and Northwest Volleyball Club - all USAV/CEVA teams who participated in the Power League.  

Amanda is currently a sophomore at Oregon Tech and has continued her career as a setter.  She has coached athletes at Oregon Tech Camps as well as coach individual athletes.  Amanda looks forward to sharing the knowledge that she has learned over the years to help each player learn and grow in this wonderful game.
