Coach Anthony served as the Head Volleyball Coach at Pickens High for 26 years, during which time her teams won 9 State Championships and 3 State Runner-up titles. Her teams won 22 conference championships, 11 Upstate titles, and 8 Upper-State Runner-up titles. She amassed a career record of 737-150, with a conference record of 330-15. Her teams never finished lower than 2nd in the conference, making the playoffs every year. Named to the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002, the Pickens High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2008, and the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports in 2018, she was the first SC volleyball coach to reach 700 wins. At the time of her retirement from coaching in 2002, she was ranked 12th nationally among high school volleyball coaches in number of victories. She was named SC Volleyball Coach of the Year 3 times and Conference Coach of the Year 18 times. She twice coached in the SCCAWS North-South All –Star Match (’81 & ’90) and was the MVP Honoree of the All-Star Match in 1994. She has coached 28 All-State players, 39 All-Stars, 6 State Players of the Year, and a 3x State Gatorade Player of the Year. 52 of her players received volleyball scholarships. Her love of coaching and love of volleyball is well known as she has worked long and hard to promote the game. While at PHS, she was instrumental in starting the local volleyball rec program and organized and directed the highly touted “Tournament of Champions” now held at Dorman High. In addition, she has conducted volleyball camps for the past 23 years for 1st -12th graders, with the #1 Volleyball Camp being quite successful. She has been a clinician at the Upstate Volleyball Clinic at Erskine College for 4 years. She founded, directed, and coached in the Foothills Volleyball Club, now known as Clemson Foothills. This is the 6th year she has coached for C1. The Pickens High Gymnasium will be named in her honor this year, the highlight of her volleyball career! She and Rick, her husband of 43 years, have two daughters, Erikka Chapman and Nikki Anthony Hope, and 3 grandchildren.
