Softball-Spring 2024

Welcome to the Spring 2024 season!

Spring registration fees include access to winter training clinics held in the Salem School gym at no additional cost. Pitcher / Catcher clinics begin 1/09/24 for Player Pitch players and above and full team fundamental clinics for all divisions begin on 1/22/23. These are highly recommended for all new and returning players.

A $25 late fee will apply to all registrations after 3/2/24. Registrations received after 3/2/24 will be placed on a waiting list.

Assessments for all players in March. Final decisions regarding team placements and coaching assignments will be made by the Player Agent and SYBL after assessments.

Team practices will begin when weather/field conditions allow, usually in late March or early April. (Tee ball begins later.) Practice schedules are determined by field availability and the coaches' schedules.

Game schedules will be available in April.

SYBL is an organization run by volunteers. It is highly encouraged that at least one adult from each family take on one volunteer role. Many different positions are available with varying time commitments and varying baseball/softball knowledge required. Please indicate your interest during the registration process so that plans for the season can be made. A background check is required for all volunteers, it is quick and can be completed at the time you sign up.

Softball divisions are as follows:

Tee Ball (ages 4-6) (co-ed)
Minor League Coach Pitch (ages 7-8, 6 year olds eligible after one year of tee ball if skill level and space permits)
Minor League Player Pitch (ages 9-10, 8 year olds if skill level and space permits, 11 year olds who need more time to develop their skills)
Major Division (ages 11-12, 10 year olds if skill level and space permits)
Senior League (ages 13-16) (High school players eligible after the conclusion of their school season.)

A player's placement within a division is based on League Age, experience, and maturity. Some levels may require participation in a skills assessment before final placement is made. SYBL may move a player to a different level than where they were originally registered if it is in their best interest.

Divisions offered in Salem each season and number of teams created depend on number of players registered, results of skills assessment, and number of volunteer coaches available. Divisions with low enrollment may be combined with neighboring leagues, or the players may be moved to a different level.
