Welcome to Alameda Little League! California District 4

Welcome to Alameda Little League! California District 4

SAVE OUR LEAGUE!

Alameda Little League will lose half of its fields!

- AUSD plans call for a football stadium and track to be built where our fields have been since 1980

- The lighted field and snack bar will be permanently closed on 06/30/2024.

- Alameda Little League has served the community since 1980, with over 900 kids currently in the program.

- We estimate that more than 10,000 kids have gone through our program.

- We have built all 4 diamonds at Rittler and Wood, in addition to the two diamonds at AHS.

- We built the snack bar and rest room facility that is used by Alameda soccer as well as us.

- We paid for and built the lights and batting cages at our fields.

- We are recognized in Northern California Little league as having one of the best facilities in Nor Cal, hosting the state championship twice in the past ten years.

Letter from the President

It is important that we keep the membership up to date with the latest information and progress with AUSD regarding the future of our venue. As most of you know by now, Wood Middle School will be undergoing a reconstruction project starting in June of 2024. That is when Alameda Little League loses its main field with lights and the Snack Bar and rest room facility. Lum School will begin demolition imminently (now) and portables will be placed there for the temporary use of Wood Middle School students. When Wood is completed in 2026 Otis Elementary will begin construction and their students will move into the portables at the Lum location. When Otis is completed in 2028, AUSD hopes to build a High School sports stadium at the Lum location and at that time we will lose our second field.

So what are the plans for Alameda Little League? AUSD has promised to build us one field on the Wood School track area behind our current location. We know that two fields are needed for our very large League and we are currently in discussions toward that end. I have appointed a committee composed of myself and Board Members Randy Marmor, V.P., Steve Spaulding, Asst. V.P., and Jim Quilici, Director of Umpires to meet with the Superintendent, the Asst. Superintendent, the architect of the projects, and Jennifer Williams who is a member of the school board.  Our meeting is scheduled for December 6th. It is our intention to insist that the first field construction start after our 2024 season so that we have less disruption to our operations moving forward. We will also press for the needed second field.

After December 6th we will be able to update our membership regarding our future. You can be assured that we will work hard to keep disruptions to a minimum, it is our hope that we will have the full working partnership with AUSD that we have enjoyed for the past 43 years at our venue that we have maintained for them since 1980. Any questions should be directed to me at [email protected] . Please do not contact AUSD about this matter. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday, and don’t forget to register your player/s now for 2024 on our website at www.alamedalittleleague.org
