2024 Spring League - Junior Umpire (Ages 12-17)

Players in the Majors and Teen divisions are welcome to join the RUG Junior Umpire Program! Initially, Junior Umpires serve as field umpires and are paired with adult umpires as they learn the ropes. Eventually, they may take on the role of home plate umpire as they gain experience and confidence.

The stipend for Junior Umpires are as follows:

Home plate umpires: High School students earn $40 per game. Middle school students earn $30 per game.
Field umpires: All students earn $20 per game.

OR...Junior Umpires may choose to earn volunteer hours towards graduation requirements. Each game is worth approximately two hours. Please bring your volunteer form to the game! (A stipend is not provided if you are earning volunteer hours.)

Requirements include the following trainings:

Junior Umpire On-Field Training with RUG Umpire-in-Chief Ross Kling (in person, Saturday, March 17, 1 pm to 3 pm)
Abuse Awareness for Minors (online)
NFHS - Concussion in Sports (online)
NFHS - Sudden Cardiac Arrest (online)

Junior Umpires are also encouraged to view the additional training opportunities and resources listed on the RUG Umpire Resources webpage.

Finally, a background check is required for all Junior Umpires. After you register, you'll receive an email to approve your background check with JDP, Little League's background check partner.
