PLAYER EQUIPMENT GUIDE
This serves as an equipment guide to inform coaches, players and parents what the league typically provides and what parents should look to purchase for their player(s).
Bat, Helmet, Softball Face Mask, Catcher's Gear, and Cleat Rules are provided within this guide as well.
ITEMS TYPICALLY PROVIDED TO GOODYEAR LITTLE LEAGUE COACHES
- Set of catching gear
- 2 or more batting helmets
- Bucket of practice balls
- Box of game balls
- First Aid Kit/Ice Packs
- Batting Tee (depending on the division)
- Team Uniform/Jersey/T-Shirt (One per player/coach)
- Team Hat/Visor (One per player/coach)
ITEMS THAT PARENTS SHOULD LOOK TO PURCHASE
- Baseball/softball pants, belt, and socks (color to be decided by team and league)
- Ball glove
- Bat (if desired -- many players have bats and are willing to share during practices/games)
- Batting gloves (if desired)
- Rubber-soled cleats (for Major Division and below)
- Backpack or equipment bag (if desired)
- Batting Helmet (if desired)
- Softball Face Mask (if desired)
BASEBALL / SOFTBALL BAT RULES AND SIZING GUIDE
BATTING HELMET GUIDE
- All batting helmets must have a NOCSAE certification (picture shown below)
- Batting helmet cheek guard / extension is optional.
- Batting helmet face shield is optional, but (if used) must be permanently attached as intended by manufacturer.
- Batting helmets, cheek guard, and face shields must be free of decals, paint, or any other non-approved alteration.
SOFTBALL FACE MASK GUIDE
- Softball pitchers are encouraged to wear a face mask at all softball levels, but it's NOT a requirement.
- A face mask is also optional for all other defensive players (exception being a catcher who must wear a catcher’s helmet).
CATCHING GEAR GUIDE
- Players are allowed to use a personal set of catcher’s gear
- Catcher’s helmets must have a NOCSAE certification (picture shown below)
- A “dangling” throat guard is mandatory on catcher's helmets (picture shown below)
- Male catchers must wear an athletic cup
CLEATS GUIDE
- Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, Machine Pitch, Minors, Majors Divisions: Metal Cleats are NOT allowed. Molded cleats are allowed. While removable cleats are permitted, when cleats are removed, no metal can remain exposed at the sole.
- Intermediate, Junior, Senior Divisions: Metal Cleats are allowed.
