Q3: Which division should I register my child for? A3: We recommend selecting the division you/your child hopes to play in. If this a returning player, this may be the division they played in last year, or it may be the next level. You likely have an idea based on your child's level of play this past season. There will be a skills evaluation clinic to help place players at the right level.
If this is your first experience with Little League, or you're not quite sure, you may consider the following age/experience suggestions:
Tee Ball (baseball) - generally 1st grade or younger and first time playing baseball/softball. We do not recommend playing more than one year of tee ball.
Coach Pitch (baseball or softball) - generally players who just completed tee ball or are entering 1st or 2nd grade (if new players). Should be age 9 or younger. Many kids will spend 2-3 years in coach pitch.
Player Pitch (baseball or softball) - this level has a wide range of players from age 7 to 11. Most have played coach pitch for at least one season before moving to player pitch. However, players age 10 or over that are new to baseball/softball will likely start at this level.
Majors (baseball or softball) - this level is mostly 10 to 12 years old. Occasionally, a 9 year old player may be promoted to majors.
Juniors (baseball or softball) - this is for players age 12-14 and played on an MLB sized field.
Challenger (baseball) - this is for any individual with a physical or intellectual challenge between ages 4 and 18; or up to 22 if still enrolled in school.
Senior Challenger (baseball) - this is for any individual with a physical or intellectual challenge over the age of 15 (with no maximum age)
Q4: What are registration cost(s)?A4: The fee to register for each division is listed below. In addition to this fee, each transaction will be assessed a $30 raffle ticket fee, as well as fees to recoup the cost for online registration and credit card processing fees.
Q5: What do my registration fees cover?A5: Registration fees are used to cover the cost of insurance, field/complex maintenance (chalk for the basepaths, grass/fertilizer, gasoline for lawn mowing, portable toilets, etc.), baseballs for games/practice, team equipment, a new hat and a custom jersey (with the player's last name). Raffle ticket fees cover the cost of a fundraiser raffle. All players will receive tickets which they can sell to family/friends to recoup the upfront cost. Winners of the raffle win cash, items, as well as tickets to professional MLB games.
Q6: What equipment will my player need?A6: Players need to provide their own baseball glove, cleats, pants, socks, and a belt. At the start of the season, coaches will advise families of the uniform color for pants/sock/belt. While the league provides batting helmets (with facemask), catcher's gear, and bats, we find that many families prefer to buy their own helmets and bats. In addition, softball players must wear fielding facemasks. Finally, players in coach pitch and above who may play the catcher position should have an athletic cup.
We usually have an ELLL weekend at Dick's Sporting Goods where we get a coupon for 20% off purchases. If purchasing a helmet, ELLL requires a facemask.
Q7: Is there a limit to the number of players who can register?A7: No. East Lycoming Little League is committed to giving all youth the ability to play baseball/softball.
Q8: I've heard about "try outs". Is there a chance my child won't make a team?A8: No. Our goal is for every child to play baseball/softball. We will conduct a skills evaluation clinic (tryout) where children will take part in hitting, fielding, and throwing drills. This will allow us to identify the appropriate division level for each child and to balance our teams (we usually have 3-4 teams per division). Every child who wants to play will be assigned to a team.
Q9: Will siblings be assigned to the same team?A9: Siblings in the same division will be assigned to the same team. However, even one year in age difference can make an impact in playing ability. If siblings are in two different divisions (i.e. coach pitch and player pitch) they will be on different
teams.
FYI: The online application will offer you the chance to buy merchandise with an ELLL logo. This store is not maintained by ELLL. We will sponsor a sale in the spring that will include more/higher quality merchandise including the option to buy a replica jersey of the one your child will receive.
