TRACK & FIELD PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Manatee Mustangs Track and field is a diverse team sport that includes a variety of running, jumping, and throwing events.

1. Running Events     
•    Sprints (100m, 200m, 400m): Short, explosive races requiring speed and power.     
•    Middle-Distance (800m, 1500m): Requires a balance of speed and endurance and strategy.          
•    Hurdles (100m/110m hurdles, 400m hurdles): Combines sprinting with jumping over barriers.     
•    Relays (4x100m, 4x400m): Team races requiring baton exchanges.

2. Jumping Events     
•    Long Jump: Athletes sprint and jump into a sand pit for distance.

3. Throwing Events     
•    Shot Put: A heavy metal ball is thrown for distance using strength and technique.     
•    Discus Throw: A round disc is thrown in a spinning motion for maximum distance.     
•    Javelin Throw: A spear-like object is thrown for distance.     

Track and field is unique in that it offers events suited for different body types and skill sets, making it one of the most inclusive and dynamic sports.

Here at MMSA, we travel throughout South & Central FL competing in AAU track and Field. Athletes ultimately have the opportunity to become a Junior Olympian depending on how well they do.
