Frequently Asked Questions

❓ How long will evaluations take?

➡️ Evaluations take approximately one hour. Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure your session starts on time.

🚫 Parents must wait in the common area during evaluations, as the gyms will be crowded.

❓ Does my player have to be evaluated?

✅ Yes—if your player is registering for baseball or softball minors or majors divisions.

❓ Why are evaluations required?

SCLL's goal is to develop players and ensure they are placed in the right division for their growth, success, and enjoyment. Evaluations help us:
✔️ Match players with a division suited to their skill level
✔️ Create balanced teams for a fun and competitive season
✔️ Make data-driven decisions during team formation

❓ Will my player automatically be placed in the division I signed them up for?

🛑 No. All players are evaluated on the same scale. Placement is based on age and ability, ensuring they are in the best division for their development.

📌 No player will be placed in a lower division than what they played in last spring.

❓ My child played Majors in the fall. Are they automatically in Majors for the spring?

🛑 No. Players automatically qualify for the division they played in last spring, not summer or fall.
Here’s the automatic age-based qualification:

• 12 years old → Majors
• 11 years old → AAA Minors
• 9 years old → AA Minors

❓ What if my child qualifies for Majors but cannot attend evaluations?

We offer three dates to attend. If your player cannot attend any, they will receive an auto-assigned evaluation score, which may impact team placement.

❓ What happens if we miss evaluations entirely?

🚨 Players who do not attend will be placed in the lowest eligible division for their age OR the same division as last year.

For extenuating circumstances, email [email protected]. The SCLL Board of Directors will review each case to the best of their ability with their decision being final.

❓ What skills will be evaluated?

🟢 Fielding
🟢 Hitting
🟢 Pitching (optional: catching)
🟢 Agility & Athleticism

❓ What should players bring?

✅ Sneakers (NO cleats)
✅ Glove
✅ Helmet & Bat if you have your own
✅ Other Protective gear (e.g., face mask, personal catcher’s gear)

⚠️ There will be a small supply of equipment available if needed.
