2026 NCYFA

2026 NORTH CANTON YOUTH FOOTBALL & CHEER

We continue to serve ALL the NCCS district. Only students living in the NC School District or attending North Canton Primary School, North Canton Intermediate School, North Canton Middle School, and St. Paul can play/cheer in our league.

Tackle football teams will be formed by grade. There are separate teams for 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades.

NEW Padded Flag football teams will be a mix of grades 2 & 3. (See more information about this below)

Cheer practices will begin the week of June 15. Football practices begin July 27.

The tackle game season runs from August 22 to October 17. Padded flag games run from August 29 to October 17. All games are played on Saturdays. Flag football, Saturday mornings at Northwood. Tackle football game start times are between noon and 8 pm on Saturdays, depending on the school stadium's availability.

When registering, if your child's birthday places them in the wrong grade, please register them in that grade. Then email us at [email protected], and we will move them to the grade they will be in for the 2026-2027 school year. We will refund any difference if applicable.

Early registration is crucial for reserving a spot for your athlete and ensuring we have sufficient equipment. The NCYFA reserves the right to close registration early once we meet our equipment limitations.

CHEER:

Flag Cheer (grades 2 & 3) $125

Tackle Football Cheer (grades 4 -7) $125

At the end of the season, we collect all league owned uniform pieces for grades 2 - 7

Optional practices begin the third week of June for participants in the 4th of July Parade.

Mandatory practices will begin the first full week of July for all cheerleaders.

FOOTBALL:

Padded Flag Football (grades 2 & 3 ) $175

Tackle Football (grades 4-7) $225

After July 4, 2025, add a $50 late fee to the above pricing for Cheer and Football

Registration Closes July 18.

Football Head Coaches

We rely on volunteers to serve as Head Coaches at all levels of football. If you want to coach or assist the Head Coach, you MUST volunteer when registering your player. If you do not register on the website, you will not be considered.

Board members Rob Frock will return as the 4th-grade tackle coach, and Dave Knestaut will return as the 7th-grade tackle coach.

We are seeking tackle Head Coaches for 5th and 6th grades. The board committee will schedule interviews for all 5th and 6th-grade Head Coach candidates based on registration on or about July 6th. The committee will make a recommendation to the board, and a head coach will be appointed.

Head coaches have the final choice of their staff. We do not dictate who will assist the head coaches.

Padded Flag coaches will be contacted by the league via phone and appointed by our Flag coordinator.

We do not accept requests to be placed on specific teams or with particular players and coaches.

DICKS Sporting Goods offers equipment for purchase during registration. The only football equipment you need to purchase is football cleats. A 1/2-gallon or more water jug is also recommended. All pads will be provided; you may buy your own, but that is unnecessary.

NEW Padded Flag Information

Non-Tackle Padded Flag introduces a football format that includes helmets and shoulder pads, allowing kids to pull flags rather than tackle. This approach helps young players become comfortable with protective gear before they transition to tackle football.

Choosing the right flag football league for your child is essential. You need to find a balance between fun, skill-building, and safety. This year, North Canton Youth Football is taking a significant step by transitioning our traditional flag football league for grades 2 and 3 to a non-tackle padded flag format, enhancing both safety and the overall experience for our North Canton kids.

Many parents and coaches view Non-Tackle Padded Flag as one of the safest options for introducing young players to football. The padded helmets provide protection against unexpected bumps, safeguarding the head during play, while shoulder pads cushion the shoulders and upper body during falls or incidental contact. This newly established Non-Tackle Padded Flag league helps kids become truly comfortable with wearing equipment—a crucial confidence builder.

At the start of the season, many children are new to helmets; they may struggle with the chinstrap snaps, find it difficult to put on or take off their helmets, and often play tentatively because the gear feels unfamiliar. However, watch how they transform by the end of the season! They will confidently sprint off the field, remove their helmets while running, and reattach them independently, all while playing with increased energy and fearlessness. They learn that the helmet is there to protect them, allowing them to move more freely and confidently on the field.

This gradual introduction to gear in a non-tackle, flag-pulling environment fosters skill development, self-assurance, and a genuine love for football while keeping the setting low-risk. Non-Tackle Padded Flag is an excellent option for families seeking a safe, enjoyable way to introduce their child to football, combining fun with added protection.
