JUSA Spring 2026

Since 1974, JUSA's goals have been to advance and promote the physical fitness of youth in the community, to develop the skills and knowledge of the game of soccer, and to promote the game of soccer by providing organized competition.

How is the JUSA Spring Season different from the Fall Season?
Soccer is a secondary sport on the fields in the Spring. Our Spring League keeps the kids primarily focused on soccer actively playing on teams and getting better at the game. Spring is about keeping kids playing together, learning and having fun!
  • Condensed season; 9 weekends of games vs. 10
  • Recreational and Recreational Gold divisions (read more below)
  • No official Rec Division Standings, JUSA Cup Tournament or All-Stars.
  • Coaches can freeze more players to a team than in Fall, to keep a Fall team together for fun (see below for freeze limits and rules).
  • No player drafts to form teams. Players are added by practice location choice.
  • Roster max is higher to allow more subs for players in other Spring sports.
  • Play time requirement is 50% for youngers (vs. 75%, due to roster max)
  • No Picture Day (reflected in the lower player registration fees)
  • Outside leagues play JUSA teams.

Recreational vs. Recreational Gold
What’s the difference? How do I know in which division to register?

During Spring registration, each parent/guardian chooses either Rec or Rec Gold division for their individual player, to be placed on a Spring team for the season.

Recreational U5-U12, U14*: if your player/team just wants to have fun and play soccer with friends, or hasn’t played before, choose Recreational. This is where most players are for Spring; just have a fun time playing the game with friends in a less competitive environment.

Recreational GOLD U8-U16* is an advanced level of recreational Spring game play. There are no tryouts for Rec Gold, but the expectation is that players choosing Rec Gold want more of a challenge in Spring and are willing and ready to commit to a higher level for the whole Spring season. Practice locations may be further than expected.

*** We do not guarantee that a player will end up on a rec gold team and do not offer refunds (once past the deadline of 12/31) based on that. We also do not issue refunds based on team practice location. We do our very best to place players as close to where they live as possible.

*The U14 division may merge into one group if there are not enough teams to form Rec and Rec Gold tiers. U16 plays Rec Gold depending on team count.

Registration fee includes:
Field Usage Fees
Referee fees (U7-U16)
Coach's Gear
Team Uniform (jersey, shorts, socks)
9 Game Season
Medals for each player

Practices - Local Yorba Linda and Placentia
  • Practices begin 2/18, 2x per week. Some teams may move to 1 day a week.
  • Games will begin 3/14 and end 5/17.

NEW! School Year vs. Birth Year Team Formation - Cal South FAQ

Cal South has decided to adopt US Soccer’s recommended team formation standard of birth date registration, instead of birth year beginning Spring 2026. Spring teams based on the upcoming Fall change will provide one season in which teams may adjust to the new Seasonal Year age group standard before the 2026 season starts. Teams will be formed aligned with players' age based on a Seasonal Year (school age) calendar; August through the following July.

Can players play up? Or down?
UP YES, DOWN NO. Players are NOT allowed to register for a team younger than their age in the Seasonal Year matrix. Players are allowed to play on a team in an older age group, but only if frozen by a coach. Players cannot request to play in an older age group without being frozen. Player safety and long-term player development should always be considered before playing in an older age group.

JUSA is a non-profit organization ran by volunteers. All of the fees paid go directly back to the program/kids. Costs for the season are paid out immediately following the close of registration; therefore, there will be NO refunds after Dec. 31, 2025.
