Playing Age Guidelines

Harney Little League believes very strongly in helping children and their families make the most out of their Little League baseball experience.  In doing so we want participants of our league to place their child in the most appropriate division.  To help, Harney offers five divisions which cater to varying skill levels and are generally aligned with Little League International rules and standards.  Please take a moment to review each division as described below before registering your child for the upcoming season.

To confirm your child's age for the upcoming season please CLICK HERE to use the official Little League age calculator.

Division Information

T-Ball, reserved for players aged 4-6.The rules of baseball are only followed in their most basic form. All players will hit off of a tee. T-Ball is designed to be non-competitive; emphasis is on fun and participation, while starting to learn some fundamental skills of hitting, throwing, and catching.

A Ball/Coach Pitch, reserved for players aged 6-7. Players will need to have a basic understanding of baseball rules, and be able to throw and catch with some consistency. They will be required to hit a thrown ball, initially from coaches as the pitcher, but also from other players as the season progresses. Although this is a non-competitive division, there are more rules than Tee Ball, and outs can be recorded.

AA Ball/Player Pitch, reserved for players aged 8-9. This is a lightly competitive division, but the focus is still on player development. Most rules of baseball are followed, including player-only pitching. A per-inning "run rule" is used to ensure players have a balanced experience on offense and defense.

AAA Ball/Minors, reserved for players aged 9-12. Considered "competitive and developmental" and league standings are kept. This division includes tryouts, a player draft, practice up to three times a week, pitch count tracking, and the introduction of "mandatory play". Players generally stay with the same AAA team once drafted, until moving up to Majors.

Majors, reserved for players aged 10-12. Includes all aspects noted in the AAA section; however, is a highly competitive division and commitment of players and families is significant. Practices begin as early as February, but participants should expect to be involved six days per week beginning in April through the end of the season. Players in Majors should love baseball and be ready to put in the work.

Player Petition Guidelines

Our divisions generally overlap; however, in some cases your child may play up or down in a division as it relates to their age qualification.  We recognize this may occur and have a standard petition process for parents to follow.  Before following the petition process, a parent should consider their child's well-being and safety as the number one priority.  Secondly, a parent should consider the experience they wish for their child to have playing baseball for the upcoming season.

If you would like to petition your child to play up or down a division then all requests must be noted in writing and emailed to the league's Player Agent. Please navigate to the "About Us > Our Staff" page to find the Player Agent's contact details.  When emailing please include your player's name, age, last division played and desired division for your child.
