2020 Boys' Spring Lacrosse

Description

Lake Nona Youth Sports’ competitive Boys’ Spring Lacrosse is here!

This is the season we prepare for all year, to compete in the Florida Lacrosse Association league, against other Central Florida teams.

This season also serves as a developmental program to prepare our older kids for high school. Practices will reinforce personal skills (throwing, passing, cradling, scooping, dodging, shooting, footwork, etc.) as well as team concepts (transition play, man-down defense, offensive principals, clearing, riding, etc.).

New players are welcome, along with our returning players.

If your child(ren) want to have a LOT of fast-paced fun, make new friends, improve cardio/footwork, and learn one of the fastest growing sports in America (with relatively more scholarship opportunities than other “main stream” sports), this program offers a LOT of bang for the buck (approximately 48 hours of practice plus 10 games and a new uniform to keep after the season).

Ages

For grades 1 to 8.

Our Lightning team (grades 1 to 4) will play 7 v 7 games.

Our Junior and Senior team (grades 5/6 and 7/8) will play full 10 v 10 games (same as high school play).

Practices and Games

The first two practices are on Saturday, January 18th and January 25th (9am to 11am) behind the Valencia campus parking lot (West side of the parking lot).

All practices for the remainder of the season (after January) will take place at Heroes Park, behind Laureate Park Elementary School, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6pm to 8pm), with our final practice on Thursday, April 16th.

Games for 5th to 8th graders (Senior division) will take place at various fields in Orlando on SATURDAY mornings or afternoon (we do not play on some weekends).

Games for 1st to 4th graders (Lightning division) will take place at Showalter Field (Winter Park) on SUNDAY mornings and afternoons (we do not play on some weekends).

The first game weekend is February 22nd/23rd.

Equipment & Gear

All players must have the following gear to practice and play:

1.    Mouthguard
2.    Cleats (from any field)
3.    Lacrosse stick (goalie gear is available to loan for goalies, plus, long poles for defensive players)
4.    Gloves
5.    Shoulder pads
6.    Arm pads

Jr. Lions helmets will be loaned for the season.

Uniforms (shorts, reversible tops, and undershirts) will be issued prior to the first game weekend (February 22nd) and are included in the price for players to keep after the season.

Loaner sticks and gear are available for newer players on a first-register-first-served basis. If you would like recommendations for resources to purchase sticks and gear, email Coach Chin at [email protected] or visit Deep South lacrosse store in Winter Park (DeepSouthLacrosse.com). It is recommended to purchase lacrosse sticks at StringKing.com (for the best strung pockets).

Price

$235 ($20 discount for siblings) covers the cost of all practices (approximately 24 sessions, or 48 hours), plus 10 games, as well as the full Jr Lions Lacrosse uniform (top, shorts, undershirt).

New players will also get a 1-year US Lacrosse membership ($35 value, to cover required membership for 12 months, in case they choose to play subsequent seasons).
