Cleanup of Stonehenge Community Center

Cleanup of the Stonehenge Community Center took place today.

Several members of the community, alongside members of Stonehenge Youth Association and The Athens Alumni Chapter of the NPHC, were on hand assisting in the effort. Much of their responsibility was to clean in and around the building to get it prepared for renovations and future use. It was a project that community members were happy to be apart of.

The cleanup effort was just one part of a project Stonehenge Youth Association is going through to try and reopen the community center since it closed years ago. The building needs substantial work before it can be fully opened again because of the years of deterioration, vandalisms and just being left in disrepair. The goal is to bring back this badly needed amenity in a historically underserved community.

There were a lot of residents and people who grew up at the community center who came through the building during the cleanup. Some of them threw out ideas of different programs they’d like to see at the center once it’s opened, while others just wanted to reflect on its history.
