B2001 Elite Advances to Far West Regional Tournament

SB Soccer Club Boys 2001 Elite Team

 Heads to Far West Regional Tournament in Oahu 

17 players from 9 schools will compete for shot at the National Championship in Texas in July

The Santa Barbara Soccer Club’s Boys 2001 Elite Team, with 17 players from 9 different schools from the Central Coast (Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo), heads to Oahu, Hawaii, June 18-24 for the Far West Regional Tournament. The winners of this tournament will advance to the National Championship Tournament in Frisco, Texas, the week of July 24.

“Through much hard work and hours of training, this team has the honor of representing Santa Barbara Soccer Club and Cal South as they compete against other teams from the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV.  I’m very proud of each one of them,” said Greg Wilson, Director of Coaching for the club. 

Region IV includes 13 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

To qualify for the Far West Regional Tournament, the Boys 2001 Elite team won the 2018 Cal South National Cup Championship May 20 in a tightly contested 2-1 match against West Coast FC (Orange County).  The team made it through the first round by finishing 3-0, with an impressive goal differential (for/against) of 11/2. The second round of victories was against AC Brea (4-2), Strikers South Bay (2-1), and CPL Riverside City FC (5-1).

The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country’s oldest and most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, which gives US Youth Soccer teams the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation.    

The 9 local schools represented include: Arroyo Grande High, Cate School, Dos Pueblos High, Dunn School, Providence High, San Marcos High, St. Joseph High School, Santa Ynez Valley High, San Luis Obispo High. 

The boys representing Santa Barbara Soccer Club and California State Soccer include Peter Aldapa, Kellan Barry, Isaac Briner, Hayden Carlson, Frank Daroma, Branden Dolezal, Lucas Eilbacher, Buba Fofanah, Moises Hernandez, Bailor Jalloh, Alan Munoz, Gabriel Penner, Nico Rocha, Levi Sheffey, Alpha Sowe, Musa Yansaneh and Jake Yonally.
