League Concept

Under the guidance of Technical Director Rudy Ybarra, and Director of Coaching Greg Wilson, we are pleased to announce the offering of a new concept in youth soccer in Santa Barbara!

Building on the success of the Friday Night Spring & Winter league, we are launching a model of soccer that we believe will foster a love of the game. This is done with professional coaches teaching the game the right way, while keeping the game fun for your player!

From a development perspective, we have always wanted to provide professional/club level coaching to our recreational teams.  Players that learn ball mastery, and skill development glean greater satisfaction, and success playing the game.  We also know that kids who play soccer learn many valuable life lessons along the way.

La Liga Mission, will be offering a somewhat more traditional recreational experience, with one practice during the week, and one game each week.  The practice, however will be run by a professionally licensed US Soccer coach.  The practices will emphasize touches on the ball and skill building, but most importantly they will be FUN!  Kids that are having fun playing soccer want to keep playing soccer.

Overview

This is an 8-week league (10 games with playoffs) that will practice once a week (Tuesday's) with a professional coach and have one game a week on a Thursday or Friday evening.  Players will begin practicing on June 11th.  The first games will be held on June 13th or 14th.  * Note: There will be no games the week of July 5. The last game is August 16th or 17th with Thursday, August 23 reserved for inclement weather.  Games will be full sided games on Thursday or Friday nights, consisting of two 25 minute halves. Games are located at Girsh Park Turf Field, {7050 Phelps Rd. Goleta 93117}. Practices will be held Girsh Turf on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm for all age group.s

We believe this league offers an improved experience for your child which fits with the developmental model of a club where all players learn soccer from quality coaches.

Curriculum

La Liga Mision will provide Professional Coaches that hold coaching licenses, as well as have college and/or professional playing experience. Our credentialed Coaches will coach one practice per week and supervise/ref/coach games, ensuring player safety.

Parent "game-day" coaches will oversee the safety of all players, game environment and flow of the game (including substitutions) adding words of encouragement, advice, and instruction in a safe environment.

Parents, family members and friends are encouraged to watch and support all players and teams from the sides of the field on game day. Parents are discouraged from "coaching" from the side lines.  Games should focus on reinforcing the skills learned during training.

One practice per week will emphasize ball mastery, skill work, but most importantly- FUN!  We want our players to have fun playing soccer!
