Improve your baseball skills with Mitch Wylie, Jeff Lanning, and several current college players at the Summer Baseball Training Camp. The camp will be offered at the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex in Ankeny starting the week of June 4 th.  Mitch and his staff  have over a combined 30+ years of college and pro playing experience and 23 years of coaching experience.  This gives the summer camp staff the ability to implement the proper training and coaching techniques that will help each individual be the best all-around player he can be.  A staff member will be involved during every training camp station to ensure that the proper mechanics and techniques are being implemented.  A game will be played at the end of each camp day to reinforce what the players learned that day.    
Mitch WylieEleven years of professional baseball playing experience (Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Saint Paul Saints organizations), 3 years of college playing experience, along with seventeen years of providing instruction  and one season of professional coaching.  
Jeff Lanning:  Four years of professional baseball playing experience (Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies organizations), 3 years of college playing experience at the Division I level, and has been a baseball hitting/catching/pitching instructor the past 9 yrs. 
Training Camp Will Cover These Basic Areas :

1)      Important Warm Up and Cool Down Exercises    Rotator cuff, core/trunk, back and legs.   
2)      Throwing Program   Throwing program to help prevent injury from over throwing and under throwing (long toss helps build arm strength and velocity).
3)      Grips   Properly throw a 4 seam fastball, a 2 seam fastball/sinker, change up. For the older players: curveball, cut fastball, slider, and split finger fastball will be discussed.
4)      Pitching Mechanics   Learn how to pitch with powerful and consistent mechanics, hold runners to help control the running game and learn pick off techniques. 
5)      Catching  Learn how to block and frame pitches, footwork drills for throwing to all bases, and pop ups. 
6)      Hitting  Learn drills and techniques for a quick compact powerful swing along with how to bunt.
7)      Field Position   Develop proper footwork and glove position for all 9 positions (including catcher) when fielding and catching a ball in the infield and outfield.
8)      Infield and Outfield   Practice proper cut-off and relays, proper footwork for infielders and outfielders.
9)      Base Running   Learn proper base running techniques and how to read a pitcher and to get good jumps.

             Weekly Schedule June 4th – June 28th

1)      7 & 8 yr olds (1st - 2nd grade for the 2017/18 school year)  
        - Mon: June 4,11,18,25  9:00 - 10:30   and or
        - Wed:  June 6,13,20,27  9:00 - 10:30     
2)      9 - 12 yr olds (3rd - 6th grade for the 2017/18 school year)  *9&10 are on separate fields than 11&12      
      Monday and or Wednesday camp:
         - Mon: June 4,11,18,25    10:00 - 11:30  
         - Wed: June 6,13,20,27    10:00 - 11:30 
      Tuesday and or Thursday Camp:
         - Tue: June 5,12,19,26  8:30-10  or  9:45-11:15                       
         - Thur: June 7,14,21,28  8:30 - 10:00  or  9:45 - 11:15

3)     13 - 15 yr olds (7th - 9th grade for the 2017/18) 
      Tuesday and or Thursday: 
       - Tue: June 5,12,19,26  10:30 - 12:00 
       - Thur: 10:30 - 12:00 June 7,14,21,28

Cost:  Option A..…Twice a week for 4 weeks….$160/player

           Option B..… Once a week for 4 weeks....$100/player
