Video and Filming Support

General Overview

A lot of student athletes choose to compile a highlight or skills video to convey their soccer abilities to college coaches. These videos are now typically streamed online and sent through e-mail. The best videos focus on the individual player strengths while showing college coaches that you meet all the components of the game.  The important thing is that your video grabs the attention of the coach and makes him or her want to learn more about you. A top-notch video typically demonstrate your specific soccer skills, shows some of your best game highlights as well as complete game footage.

Simply put- Make coaches want to follow up and come watch you play live!

How do I get started?

Create a library of quality video footage; this can be created from several different sources.

  • Ask your school or high school coach about the footage they maintain
  • Ask your club/travel team coach about video footage
  • Ask your parent(s) to create some footage for you
  • Hire a professional. If you have the money to spend, hiring a professional is obviously the best way to go. If you don’t have the money to spend to hire a professional, doing it yourself or getting footage from your coach is fine as well.  Feel free to join in with teammates as cost savings comes into effect when multiple families purchase game footage.

Create your own video (SBSC Production Department Resources)

Santa Barbara SC has made a commitment to bridge the financial constraints on the club membership by providing an inexpensive video editing option through Leo Leclercq, [email protected]. Details below....

*Edited - Provide us with the clips you want and exact location on game DVD.
*Full - Provide us with your uniform number and playing position and we will scope out the best clips.

Besides picking from the Edited and Full version of your film breakdown, it is important to make you aware that there are two types of videos available. The first type of film breakdown is split it up into different skills (ex: defending, passing, finishing, etc.) The second type of video has clips that begin in a more simplistic fashion and progress to more complex, in order to impress the college coaches watching it. The two highlight clips below are example of the second type of film breakdown:

• Please specify what format you would like the video in (Youtube/DVD/USB).
Easiest and most accessible for coaches is to provide a Youtube/Dropbox link.

• If you would like a DVD(s) of the video, you must provide the DVD(s) or
video placed onto your USB, you must provide a USB.

Contact Leo Leclercq at [email protected] if you have any queries.
