El Segundo Wins Little League World Series

Just in case you haven't heard the big news, our neighbor little league, El Segundo, won the Little League World Series in dramatic fashion with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 6th! To say is was exciting is an understatement!

There are more than 5,500 little leagues worldwide and this is only the eighth time a Californian team has won since the series started in 1947.

This truly is an incredible accomplishment, and it is big win for our local communities, our section, our state, our region, and our country!

SoCal baseball is clearly on the map and El Segundo's performance showcased just how much talent there is in our area! It is worth noting that our very own DRALL 12U All-Star team faced the talented El Segundo squad in the Sectional tournament and had a very close game that we nearly won!

Of course El Segundo went on to advance in sectionals and represented our section (we are both in Section 4) in the SoCal State Tournament, the West Regional Tournament, and then the Little League World Series (only 10 US teams make that far). They lost one game in the LLWS to a strong Texas team but the seemed to be a team destined to go all the way.

They ended up beating that same Texas team to win the U.S. Championship and then won the whole thing by beating Curacao 5-6 in the LLWS Championship game!

One thing we as a league would like to especially recognize is how the El Segundo boys and coaches carried themselves throughout the tournament. From head coach Danny Boehle and his assistant coaches to each and every player, it is clear they showed up with humility and respect, as they truly embodied what the Little League spirit is all about!

Yes, they played some amazing baseball, but what makes us all especially proud is how they did it.

They did a wonderful job of representing their little league, the El Segundo community and surrounding communities (of which we are a part), and the larger Southern California region in such a beautiful way! Many of our kids go to school and play sports with these boys so this is especially special!

We are all so proud of them and this is a win for us all!

Today they had their homecoming welcome party and there will be an All-Star celebration parade on Main Street in El Segundo on Sunday, September 10th at 12 PM
