BLL Committees

Within By-Laws: the committees below are stated in our by-laws and currently exist

·         Auxiliary (fundraising)

This committee would be focused on fundraising opportunities, including Subway coupon books, individual league or community events, and appeals for league projects. There would be some connection with a Community Relations committee (below).

·         Building and Grounds

This committee focuses on general field conditions for all league fields (currently mini-Fenway, Hodgen Major, Hodgen Minor and JBMS), including any needs for maintenance and repair. The committee also ensures that there are adequate supplies (dirt, lime, tools, etc.) for each field, that trash and recycling are scheduled, and that announcer/booth needs are met. And, this committee also confirms that field maintenance procedures are documented and that board members and coaches are trained on these procedures.

·         Playing equipment

This committee focuses on league equipment, including equipment for players, coaches and umpires. It also would ensure that each team has similarly-stocked team equipment bags.

·         Managers (coaching/education)

This committee would focus on the selection process for regular season coaches, and the subsequent education of those coaches (in terms of the methodology and philosophy of the league). Structure for the evaluation of, and guidance and feedback for, coaches is included.

·         Minors

This committee focuses on the health of the Minors league, including but not limited to: opponents and scheduling, quantity of teams, age ranges of players, field and facility needs, and rules.

·         Liaison/District

This committee is focused on interactions with the overall district administration, including interaction with other area leagues and other general district rules and guidelines. At least one member will represent BLL in voting privileges and district meetings.

·         Umpire

This committee handles the recruiting, training, and scheduling of umpires for each BLL season. At least one member is designated to handle umpire compensation and would represent BLL in any area, district, or state meetings.

Other Existing Roles (in BLL)—these are either roles that exist in our by-laws, or are current roles that we have in our league.

·         Concessions

This committee handles concession-related responsibilities at BLL fields (currently mini-Fenway and Hodgen). This would include the appropriate inspections/permits, as well as handling supply orders, staff scheduling, and managing cash flow for sales. This responsibility includes determining which seasons have sales (currently spring and summer, plus Green Monster) and which do not.

·         Green Monster Tournament

This committee is responsible for running the summer Green Monster Tournament. This would cover the full spectrum of activities such as: tournament rules and fees; tournament scheduling, publicity, and communication; working with the Building and Grounds, Concessions and Umpire committees to ensure appropriate coverage from those committee roles; tournament booth and site coordination; and trophy and award purchasing and distribution.

·         Safety

The Safety Officer handles all safety-related concerns for BLL, including the completion and submission of all necessary forms and documentation (i.e. to LLI) and the securing of appropriate insurance. The Safety Officer also ensures that all board members and coaches are aware of security protocols and guidelines.

·         Player Agent

The Player Agent is responsible for addressing all player-related issues throughout the season. This would include ensuring that Player Evaluations (regular season and summer season) are conducted according to the by-laws. Any player and/or family concerns are presented to the Player Agent for investigation and resolution.

·         Challenger

This committee focuses on the health of the Challenger league (those with special needs), including but not limited to: opponents and scheduling, quantity of teams, age ranges of players, field and facility needs, and rules.

·         Summer season

This committee focuses on the health of the Summer season, including but not limited to: opponents and scheduling, quantity of teams, age ranges of players, field and facility needs, and rules. This is applicable to Little League All-Star teams, as well as general tournament teams.

·         Fall ball

This committee focuses on the health of the Fall Ball season, including but not limited to: opponents and scheduling, quantity of teams, age ranges of players, field and facility needs, and rules.

·         Community Relations

This committee would be focused on outreach, publicity, school and Rec Department interaction, town government relations, and local businesses relations. It would work in conjunction with both the Auxiliary Committee and the Social Media Committee where applicable.

·         Website-social media

This committee would focus on both the league website as well as other social media outlets (i.e. Facebook, etc.). Its primary function is for league audiences with respect to team/season management and participant communication. Its secondary function is for non-league audiences with respect to publicity and community relations, and therefore would work closely with both the Auxiliary and Community Relations committees.
