Once the playing season is over, the scholars’ season continues as the scholar-athlete can be selected to:
· 1. Local Level - Mid-Florida Conference Scholar
· and/or 2. Regional Level - Southeast Region Scholar
· and/or 3. National Level - National All-American Scholar
These scholars have to be in the 5th grade or above; had to have over an 96% average on the previous year's full report card and have to participate in activities in and out of the school - community activities, volunteering activities, received special awards at school, etc. It is not easy to be even eligible for the Scholar program, much less be selected to a "team". As the levels go up, of course, the competition is more intense because the target area is ever increasing. By the time the scholars are placed on First Team National All-Americans, they represent the Top 1%!
The Local and Regional level only allow for "First Team" Scholars.
The National Level expands out the number of Scholars accepted by having a First Team, a Second Team and an Honorable Mention Team. So though a scholar may not get recognized by the Local or Regional Level, a scholar may very well be recognized at the National level.
Pop Warner prides itself on being the only national youth sports organization in America that rewards its members for their outstanding performance in the classroom. Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status, and are rewarded on several different levels (I.e. National, Regional, League, etc.).
The Scholars are invited to a Banquet to receive their award and enjoy their accomplishments.
- Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Banquet typically in February.
- Southeast Scholar Banquet typically in March/April.
- National All-American Scholar Banquet and Festivities held during the Memorial Day weekend (May).
