The Pitt Lightning Staff has over 20 years of coaching experience. The program originated from a vision of one of our very own Head Coaches, James L. Bowens (Coach Jay). Coach Jay’s vision was to provide a high quality football program for area youth while also instilling values in participants that would prove to be invaluable to the participants, helping them achieve healthy and productive lives. The journey to achieving his goal began in 2001, where Coach Jay became the Head Coach for the Greenville Housing Authority U8 football team.
Throughout the years Coach Jay would go on to coach other age divisions and along the way amassed over 75 wins and multiple undefeated championship seasons. Additionally, Coach Jay has seen many of his players have very successful High School Football careers and a host of those players receiving Full Athletic Scholarships to Universities. In 2013, Coach Jay teamed up with Coach Troy Loftin and Coach Lindsay Moore and started the Pitt Lightning U8 football team. After realizing they all shared the same passion for the youth, the Pitt Lightning organization was born. Since its formation, the Pitt Lightning Organization has created a Board of Directors and several committees to ensure the program is run as efficient as possible and that we are able provide the High Quality Football program that the Pitt County area deserves.
