GIRLS 5th/6th grade tryout 2019

Jr Eagles Basketball tryouts for 5th & 6th grade GIRLS will take place 6:00-7:00 on Monday, October 21st at the Jr High gym.

When you enter the gym, please check in at the table and each girl will receive a number to wear during the tryout.

Please bring your own basketball.

Keep in mind that all the girls will make a team. We call this a tryout, but it is really an evaluation. The girls will be graded by Sr High coaches.
The first practice will be Saturday Oct. 26th, time TBD. You will receive more specific information after tryouts.

Our goal is that every girl will have a positive Jr Eagles experience this season while becoming a better basketball player!

Sticker Sale

We are selling Somerset Basketball stickers as a fundraiser. Anyone and everyone are welcome to purchase stickers.

The stickers are approximately 4 inches wide and 3 inches high. They are durable vinyl stickers that are weather resistant - perfect for car windows, water bottles and anywhere else.

Price: 1 for $2.00 or 3 for $5.00

If you want to buy some stickers, stop by the Jr High Cafeteria during sign-ups or send an email to [email protected]

2019 Clothing Sale

We are selling Somerset Basketball clothing as a fundraiser. Anyone and everyone are welcome to place an order.

Order forms are available at sign-ups.
If you need an order form, send an email to [email protected] (I could not get it to download onto this website)

Here are some options for submitting your order form:

1. Bring it to sign-ups

2. Bring it to open gyms on Sundays in Sept. and October.

3. 5th and 6th graders can give it to their coach once their season starts.

4. Mail it to the address listed on the order form.

Deadline to order is Nov. 2nd.
Clothing will be delivered the end of November or beginning of December. We will make arrangements to get the clothing to everyone.

JR EAGLES BASKETBALL IS AN OFFICIAL PARTNER OF THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS JUNIOR CAVS PROGRAM. All Jr Eagles participants will receive one ticket voucher to attend a Cavaliers home game for free, and also a reversible Cavaliers jersey to wear during Jr Eagles games.

**Players must be a student of the Somerset Area School District, or if attending a private school - must live within the boundaries of the Somerset Area School District.

This activity or document is not sponsored by the Somerset Area School District; and, viewpoints and opinions expressed through this activity or in this document are not positions or policies of the Somerset Area School District. Participation is completely voluntary.

Fall Open Gyms

There will be open gyms for 1st-6th graders during September and October, 2019. Last open gym is Oct. 20th!!!

Day: Sunday
Time: 5:00-6:30
Location: Jr High gym
Please bring your own basketball

Open gym on Sept. 27th will be 2:00-4:00, not 5:00-6:30.
Open gym on Sept. 29th is only one hour, 5:30-6:30.

Kids can come in and shoot around on their own and we will also do some skill work as a group.

Please bring a water bottle because all kids MUST STAY IN THE GYM unless they have to use the bathroom in the hallway.

**If parents are not staying in the gym, you are REQUIRED to come into the gym and write down a cell phone number in case we need to get in touch with you**

If for some reason I need to cancel an open gym at the last minute, I will post it on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and also try to send an email to everyone.

Jr Eagles Day at Cavaliers game

Parents, we are planning a bus trip to a Cleveland Cavaliers game on Sunday April 7th, 2019 against the San Antonio Spurs. The game starts at 3:00.

The Cavaliers have given us 50 free tickets to use for the game. Those tickets are together in section 226, rows 8-16.

People that volunteered with Jr Eagles this past season were already given first option at taking the tickets. There are still free tickets that remain available.

These tickets will be dispersed on a first come, first serve basis in the following order:

5th and 6th grade parents from now until 5:00pm Friday March 15th. If free tickets still remain, then

3rd and 4th grade parents from 5:00pm Friday until 5:00pm Sunday March 17th. If free tickets still remain, then

1st and 2nd grade parents from 5:00pm Sunday until 5:00pm Tuesday March 19th.

Rules for accepting the free tickets:

Each family gets a maximum of 3 free tickets that are to be used by parents and children only.

Initially, everyone that gets free tickets must ride the bus. If we have other people that buy tickets on their own and want to ride the bus, they can take your spots.

All kids must be accompanied by an adult.

Charter bus information:

Initially, we want to fill a 55 seat bus. It will cost each passenger on that bus approximately $34.

If there is demand, we will then try to fill another bus on a first come first serve basis.

If we fill a 41 seat bus, it will cost each passenger approximately $42.

If we fill a 33 seat bus, it will cost each passenger approximately $48.

Bus will leave Somerset area around 10:30 and return to Somerset around 9:30, no stops.

Ticket buying options:

Remember, everyone should have gotten an email from the Cavaliers on Nov. 12th in which you received an offer for a complimentary ticket to a Cavs game.

Keep in mind that if you are buying tickets on your own, there is no guarantee that there will be a seat available on the bus.

FINAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR GETTING THE FREE TICKETS:

2. How many people in your group want to ride the bus (initially, free ticket recipients must ride bus)

3rd/4th grade 3on3

3rd/4th grade 3on3 Tournament will be held on Saturday Feb. 9th, 2019 at the Jr High.
Boys start at 10:00.
Girls start at 12:00.

Practices Feb. 4th-7th to prepare players for 3on3 tournament:
Monday and Wednesday - all girls 6:30-7:30 at Eagle View.
Tuesday - boys regular practice with their team - Teams A & B: 6:00-7:00, Teams C & D: 7:00-8:00
Thursday - all boys 6:30-7:30 at Eagle View.

If you son/daughter won't be participating in the tournament on Saturday, please email [email protected] ASAP!

Teams will be randomly selected with 3 or 4 players per team.

Girls teams will be announced at Wednesday's practice.
Boys teams will be announced at Thursday's practice.

Elks Hoop Shoot

The Elks Hoop Shoot free throw shooting contest will be held on Sunday Dec. 2nd, 2018 at the Senior High.

8 & 9 year old boys and girls at 6:00
10 & 11 year old boys and girls at 7:00
12 & 13 year old boys and girls at 8:00

DO NOT BRING A BASKETBALL, basketballs will be provided.
All girls must use size 28.5.
Boys age 8&9 use 28.5.
Boys age 10&11 and 12&13 use 29.5.

Age group is determined by what your age is on 04/01/19.

This event is for students of the Somerset Area School District only.
Only students attending Maple Ridge, Eagle View or Somerset Jr High are allowed to participate in this event.
Home school students that live within the boundaries of the Somerset Area School District are allowed to participate.

The winner of each age group has the opportunity to move onto the regional competition at the Meyersdale High School on Jan. 5th at 10:00.

3 on 3 Tournament

The inaugural Jr Eagles 3 on 3 Tournament for 5th and 6th grade boys and girls will be held Saturday Dec. 1st, 2018 at Eagle View.

5th/6th grade Girls at 10:00
5th grade Boys at 11:00
6th grade Boys at 12:30

Teams will be randomly selected and announced on our Facebook page before Nov. 28th.

2018 JR NBA SKILLS CHALLENGE

Jr NBA Skills Challenge

Location: Eagle View

Attire: Wear your Jr Eagles/Jr Cavs jersey, or your favorite NBA team jersey/t-shirt

The competition consists of dribbling through cones and making as many shots as possible from designated spots on the court within 1 minute.

BOYS: Monday, Nov. 19th.
Ages: 11U - 6:00, 13U - 7:00
BOYS - DO NOT BRING A BASKETBALL. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO USE A REGULAR MEN'S SIZE (29.5) BASKETBALL. THEREFORE, WE WILL PROVIDE BASKETBALLS FOR THE BOYS.

GIRLS: Tuesday, Nov. 20th
Ages: 11U - 6:00, 13U -7:00
Girls - please bring a basketball.

Age is based upon the participant’s age as of August 31, 2019.

11U - Born on or after September 1, 2007
13U - Born between September 1, 2005 – August 31, 2007

Parents will need to sign the Jr NBA Waiver of Liability upon entering Eagle View. Players of each age group are asked to remain in the gym until all players in that age group have completed the competition.

The top 3 finishers in each age group of each gender will have the opportunity to compete in a Regional Competition.

2018 Spirit Sale order form turn-ins

Here are some options for turning in your Spirit Sale order forms and money:

5th & 6th Graders: turn them in at tryouts on Sunday, Oct 28; or give the forms to your coach by Saturday, Nov. 3

3rd & 4th Graders: turn them in to Miss Kegg in Room 202 of Eagle View Elementary by Friday, Nov. 2

We currently have 20 5th and 6th grade girls signed up. The first practice will be either Oct. 31 or Nov 1 at Eagle View either 6:00 or 7:00. You will receive more specific information after tryouts.

Games are scheduled to take place on Nov. 10, 17, Dec. 8, 15 and either 17 or 18.

5th & 6th Grade BOYS Tyrouts 2018

Jr Eagles Basketball tryouts for 5th & 6th grade BOYS will take place at 6:00 this Sunday, Oct. 28th at the Jr High gym.

When you enter the gym, please check in at the table and each boy will receive a number to wear during the tryout.

You may also turn in your Spirit Sale forms at that time.

Please bring your own basketball. The tryout will take approximately 1 hour.

Keep in mind that all the boys will make a team. We call this a tryout, but it is really an evaluation. The boys will be graded by Jr High and Sr High coaches. We will then split up the teams in order to make the teams as equally talented as possible. We will do this by using the number they are assigned at tryouts. We will not look at names when making the teams.

We have 42 boys signed up and will split them into 5 teams. The first practice will take place either Wednesday Oct. 31 or Thursday Nov. 1 at Eagle View gym either 6:00 or 7:00. Four teams will practice one night, and one team will practice the next night. You will receive more specific information once the teams are announced.

The teams will be initially announced on our Facebook page and website either that Sunday night or the next day. You will then be notified by email.

Games are scheduled to take place on Nov. 10, 17, Dec. 8, 15 and either 17 or 18.
