Welcome to the OMGS Invitational 2019 Tournament!

We have 50 teams registered for our tournament and we really appreciate you and your team spending the weekend with us playing softball. Good luck to all teams and we hope you have a safe and fun tournament. Please respect OMGS, Riverton City and these facilities by picking up after yourself whether in the dugout or in the bleachers. NO smoking (including vaping) or alcoholic beverages on the park premises are allowed. No inappropriate language use. NO dogs or other animals are permitted. NO bikes, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, etc.

This year, we once again ask coaches of teams reaching championship games to select a Most Valuable Player (MVP) from the opposing team.  Both MVPs will be recognized and receive a trophy at the end of the championship or IF game.

FIELD LOCATIONS:

Centennial Park - 2700 West 13000 South, Riverton, UT (all 10U and 18U pool and bracket games)
CR Hamilton Sports Complex - 3702 West 13800 South, Riverton, UT (all 8U, 12U, and 14U pool and bracket games)

TOURNAMENT RULES:

1)       USA Softball rules will be followed unless otherwise noted.
2)       Sportsmanship is essential to a successful tournament. It is the responsibility of the coach to control your team and your fans. Coaches, players and/or fans can be thrown out for poor sportsmanship on or off the field. Penalty is for that game plus next game and you must leave the complex.
3)       Check in with tournament personnel when arriving at the field. A copy of your USA Softball roster and liability insurance must be submitted at least 60 minutes prior to the first game. All team managers must have proof of age at all times and submit those if requested by tournament personnel. All coaches must wear a coach’s badge to be on the field or in the dugout.
4)       Complete line up cards, with first & last names and uniform numbers, must be submitted to the scorekeeper table at least 15 minutes prior to the start of each game. Home team will keep the official scorebook and visiting team will provide someone to run the scoreboard. Adults are preferred to run the scoreboards. Children 14 and older can help run the scoreboard with direct adult supervision.
5)       POOL PLAY: Home team is listed first and will occupy the 3rd base dugout, unless a team has just finished playing the previous game and is already in a dugout. Home team for the "winners" and "losers" games will be determined by a coin flip.
6)       BRACKET PLAY: Home team will be determined by a coin flip at home plate during the pre-game conference. In the championship game, the undefeated team will be the home team. If the "IF" game is played, home team will be determined by a coin flip.
7)       Game Length/Run Rule:
a)       Pool Play: Game time is 60 minutes (or 5 innings). No new inning will begin after 55 minutes. International Tie- Breaker rule will be used for ONE inning after 55 minutes. Winner will be determined by a coin toss by the umpire if still tied.
b)       Bracket Games: Game time is 70 minutes (or 7 innings); No new inning will begin after 65 minutes. International Tie-Breaker rule will go into effect at the start of any new inning after 65 minutes.
c)       Run Rule: 6 runs per inning for all age groups in all pool play games and for all 8U and 10U bracket games.
d)       USA Softball Run Ahead Rule: For all games - 15 runs after 3 innings, 12 runs after 4 innings, and 8 runs after 5 innings or 45 minutes for pool games and 55 minutes for bracket games.
8)       Pool play games will determine seeds for bracket games. Placement is determined by the following:

3 Team Pools:                                                         4 Team Pools:
1  - Win-Loss Record                                              1 - Win, Win
2  - Head to Head Win-Loss Record                       2 - Win, Lose
3 - The Fewest Runs Allowed (Defensively)           3 - Lose, Win
4 - Total Runs Scored (Offensively)                        4 - Lose, Lose
5 - Coin Toss
9)       Teams may play ten (10) players on defense with free substitution (4 outfielders and 6 infielders). Four outfielders must be on the grass until the ball crosses the plate. Players must play defense at least every other inning. Teams must bat the entire roster. A courtesy runner may be used for the pitcher and/or catcher if they are playing that position the next inning. Any player not on base can be used as a courtesy runner for the Catcher or Pitcher of record.  Any courtesy runner whose turn at bat comes up and is on base will be called out and then take their turn at bat.
10)   No infield practice is allowed (inside the baselines). No warming up is allowed on the dirt when grounds crew are working on the fields or the umpires are on the field. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO HIT OR PITCH AGAINST FENCES, this will be cause for elimination from the tournament.  Centennial Park has soft toss nets at the end of each fence that can be used for hitting practice.
11)   The one minute between innings and conference rule will be enforced.
12)   Game time is forfeit time, unless delayed by late running games. It is your responsibility to check schedules for changes in game times.
13)   Please wait for the teams to leave the dugout before your team enters. All garbage in dugouts must be cleaned after each game by the team occupying the dugout, especially under the benches! Dugout tarps will be provided for all games.
14)   If bad weather occurs, games will be rescheduled at the earliest possible date and time. If a game is called before it  is complete, it will be continued from the time that it was stopped. Games will be considered COMPLETE after 3 complete innings. If the inning is not complete when the game is called (past 3 innings) the score will revert back to the last complete inning.
15)   The Tournament committee will rule on all protests except rule interpretations. The Umpire in Chief (UIC) will rule on rule interpretations. The Tournament committee reserves the right to make rulings not specifically covered herein which are deemed to be in the best interest of the tournament. This may include shortening game times to complete the tournament. All decisions by the tournament committee are final.
16)   USA Softball of Utah eligibility protests will be determined by the on-site USA Softball representative not by OMGS tournament personnel.

Special Tournament Rules:

8 & Under:

a)       A side will retire after 6 runs or three outs in all games.
b)       Runners cannot steal and walks are not allowed. A runner on 3rd base can only be batted in. The ball is considered dead each time it is pitched and not hit by the batter.
c)       When a ball is hit and remains inside the baseline, the batter/runner(s) may only advance one base unless a thrown ball is misplayed. If a play is made on a batter/runner and the thrown ball is misplayed, the runner(s) may advance one additional base at risk of being put-out. If runner(s) continue to advance, they do so at their own risk and can be put out. However, after play is stopped, all safe runners will be sent back. Runner(s) cannot advance home on a misplayed ball.
d)       The baseline is defined as an imaginary line from 1st base to 2nd base, and from 2nd base to 3rd base.  A ball hit to the outfield (beyond the baseline) allows runner(s) to run as far as they can until the ball is inside the baseline. When the ball is inside the baseline, play stops and the runner(s) stop at the base they are going to. BASELINE CALLS ARE A JUDGEMENT CALL, PLEASE RESPECT THE UMPIRES.
e)       COACHES: Please have your girls throw the ball to the defensive player pitcher and NOT to the adult pitching the ball. The defensive pitcher will hand the ball to the adult pitching. The coach that is pitching must have one foot in contact with the pitching rubber at the start of each pitch.
f)        All infielders must be outside the chalked 35 ft. safety arch at the start of each pitch until the ball crosses the plate.
g)       No infield fly rule.
h)       Bunting is allowed.  If a batter shows bunt, 1) she must make an attempt to bunt or not bunt, and may not swing at the ball, and 2) fielders may cross the 35 ft arch as soon as a bunt is shown

10 & Under:

a)       A side will retire after 6 runs or three outs for all games.
b)       USA Softball rules will be used for all 10U games. 11" ball will be used and pitching distance will be at 35'.
