Send it to the Football Commissioner and we will post it here!
Q: When will practices start, and what days of the week will they be?
A: Practices usually begin around the first week of August. There will be four days of conditioning without pads (helmets, shorts and tshirts), one day of pads with no contact, and then full pads/full contact from that point on. IMPORTANT: if your player misses the required conditioning days, he will be required to make them up before being allowed to make contact. And no – attendance at our summer conditioning sessions do not count.
The practice schedule will be 4-5 days a week before school starts. Once school starts we are restricted to three days per week for 4th, 5th and 6th grades, 4 days for Varsity. The individual coaches will decide the days of the week to practice.
Q: What do I need to purchase?
A: We provide helmets, shoulder pads and game jerseys.
You will need to purchase:
- Mouth guard
- Football pants with pads integrated
- Practice jersey
Q: When are the games and when do they start?
A: Games are played typically on Sunday afternoons, but there maybe a Saturday game as scheduled by the Diocese.
League games will begin in Mid-September, with final bowl games in early November. 4th grade teams will not have a bowl game. Actual game times do not get released until just before the first game. Game times will be posted on the individual team pages of this site as soon as the diocese releases them.
Q: What are the weight limits?
A: There is NO limit to the amount a player can weigh, but weight is a factor in what position he may play. In general, here are the classifications:
- Unrestricted: may play any position
- Striper: may not play in the offensive backfield/cannot carry the football
- X er: must play offensive or defensive line
Final Weight-Limits determined by the Diocese each year, but in the past, here are some previous weights:

Q: What is in place to make football as safe as possible for my son?
A: Football coaches are required to complete more training than any other coaches in St. Brigid's offerings. All coaches are have had a background check and completed the following trainings: Protecting God's Children, USA Football Heads Up Training (proper and safest tackling techniques and general player safety), Concussion, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training. Although not required, multiple coaches are CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid certified. There will always be an AED at our practice site.
Our football helmets are monitored throughout the season and inspected at the end of each season. If the helmets appear to be damaged or were worn for two seasons, they get sent back to the manufacturer to be reconditioned. Helmet reconditioning includes a manufacturer's inspection, cleaning, buffing and painting, any necessary repairs, and re-certification.
Please note: to satisfy Diocesan Safe Environment Policies, all coaches and assistant coaches 18 years of age are required to have completed Protecting God’s Children and have a current background check, volunteer application and signed Code of Conduct on file with the parish.
