LEAGUE HISTORY:
Westside Little League is a non-profit organization formed in 1955 to provide organized youth baseball to residents of Fort Worth, Texas. This area includes River Oaks, Westworth Village, Sansom Park, Northside, Westover, Rivercrest, Ridgmar, Ridglea, Como, Arlington Heights, Riverside, and the area surrounding Fort Worth’s Cultural District. These neighborhoods represent a large area of north and west Fort Worth and have a population with a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and family incomes.Over the past 50+ years, Westside Little League has established itself as a Fort Worth institution providing children from the ages of four through eighteen the program, organization, and facilities (Kelly Park) necessary to participate in baseball and softball. Since its establishment, over 45,000 children have played at Westside Little League.
LEAGUE MISSION AND OBJECTIVES:
From inception, thousands of parents and volunteers have spent countless hours furthering the League’s objective of creating and maintaining a quality youth sports program in a neighborhood atmosphere at Westside Little League. Each year, Westside Little League hosts over 600 games and by conservative estimates, volunteers contribute more than 10,000 hours toward this objective. Westside Little League’s mission is to assist youth in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By promoting the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, Westside Little League’s baseball program is designed to develop superior citizens and not necessarily superior athletes.An added benefit of our volunteer program and neighborhood atmosphere is the enhancement of parent/child and child/child communication lines. Parents spend countless hours volunteering, coaching, and watching their sons and daughters play the game with and against their sons and daughters friends. This creates bonds and a common ground which extend past the baseball/softball field into a family’s everyday life. As a result, parents hopefully will be able to communicate better with their children as they move through adolescence and the kids develop friendships that endure beyond their Little League experience. Many of our current volunteers and coaches actually played at Westside Little League when they were kids.
