THE SOUTH RIVERDALE LITTLE LEAGUE COACH, VOLUNTEER AND PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT AGREEMENT
As a member of South Riverdale Little League, I must conduct myself in a manner consistent with the purpose and spirit of youth athletics. In this regard, I agree to the following terms and conditions of my participation in the South Riverdale Little League:
1. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for the children and not for the adults.
2. I will be a positive role model for all and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice or other league event.
3. I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.
4. I will not encourage any behavior or practices that would endanger the health and well being of the players.
5. I will teach my players that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that no one will ever feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
6. I will praise my players for competing fairly and trying hard, and make them feel like a winner every time.
7. I will never ridicule or yell at my players or other participants.
8. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my players over winning.
9. I will de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
10. I will promote the emotional and physical well being of the players ahead of any personal desire I may have to win.
11. I will respect the umpires and their authority during games.
12. I will not confront an umpire at any time.
13. I will never question or confront other coaches on the field.
14. I will never use profanity or be crude in front of players or parents.
15. I will never verbally or physically abuse a player, parent, umpire or league official.
16. I understand that coaches are responsible for controlling the actions of their players and parents so that they do not verbally or physically abuse a player, parent, umpire or league official.
17. I understand that coaches must provide an environment free of tobacco, alcohol, drugs and weapons of any kind.
18. I will endeavor to place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of my desire to win.
19. I understand that coaches shall not, in the performance of their duties, by words or conduct manifest prejudice or bias based upon race, sex, religion, age, disability, national origin or sexual orientation.
20. I will never knowingly permit an ineligible player to be on my team or withhold information regarding the eligibility of players on my team.
21. I will endeavor to be knowledgeable of the rules of the game.
22. I will endeavor to be knowledgeable of proper coaching techniques, and will strive to stay current as to methods of teaching the skills of the game.
23. I will endeavor to be reasonable in my demands of a player’s time, energy, enthusiasm, and performance on the field.
24. I will follow the advice of a physician when determining when an injured player is ready to play again
25. I will actively promote honesty and forthrightness among the players.
26. I will ensure that an adult is present to supervise my players at all times.
27. I will be knowledgeable of and adhere to the Local Rules of the South Riverdale Little League.
I agree that if I fail to abide by the above listed rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action by the Board of Directors of The South Riverdale Little League including but not limited to:
1. Verbal censure;
2. Written censure;
3. Suspension for one or more games;
4. Season suspension;
5. Revocation of all coaching privileges;
6. Permanent censure.
