What is Little League® SAFE?

For nearly 30 years, Little League’s A Safety Awareness Program (ASAP) has set the standard for safety across local leagues, reducing injuries and strengthening volunteer readiness. Building on that success, Little League has launched two new initiatives, Little League SAFE and SAFE to Play.

SAFE Training Courses

The safety and well-being of all participants in the Little League® program continues to be a top priority, and creating a safe, positive environment is a shared responsibility. Each season, leagues and volunteers play an important role in identifying risks, preparing for emergencies, and supporting a fun and consistent experience for players and families.

Little League Safety Awareness Course

The Little League Safety Awareness Course provides volunteers with a broad overview of key safety concepts and best practices that support safe league operations. Designed specifically for the Little League program, this course helps volunteers better understand their role in promoting safety, recognizing potential hazards, and supporting a strong culture of safety throughout the season.

Little League First Aid Awareness

The Little League First Aid Awareness Course is designed to introduce volunteers to common injuries, basic first aid principles, and important response considerations specific to the Little League environment. This course is not a certification program, but it provides practical awareness and guidance to help volunteers recognize injuries, respond appropriately, and understand when additional medical care may be needed.

HEADS UP Concussion Training

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the HEADS-UP Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, officials, and athletes involved in youth sports. HEADS-UP Concussions in Youth Sports is a free online course available to coaches, parents, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussions.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Each coach, administrator, and referee, umpire, or other game official of the youth sports organization shall be required to successfully complete the concussion and head injury and sudden cardiac arrest prevention education at least once, either online or in person, before supervising an athlete in an activity of the youth sports organization [CA HSC 124235(a)(5)(A)]. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) offers free online training on its web site.

Abuse Awareness Training

The safety and well-being of all participants in the Little League® program continues to be paramount, and it is on all of us to do our part to provide a fun, memorable, and safe experience each year. With the requirement of all volunteers to complete Abuse Awareness training each year, we are proud to announce the launch of the new Little League Abuse Awareness Course.

This course, which serves as a replacement for the programs previously available through third-party organizations like USA Baseball, is custom to the Little League program and provides an easier learning experience for our volunteers. Required to be completed by all volunteers each year, this course is available as part of the training and education courses at LittleLeague.org/Training, making signing up for the course even easier for our volunteers.

Little League® Diamond Leader Training

Focused on ensuring children have a positive, well-rounded experience on and off the field, the Little League® Diamond Leader Training Program is a FREE educational resource that provides coaches with an understanding of the impact that mental, social, and emotional well-being has in youth sports through detailed information, interactive scenarios, and a variety of additional resources.

Through this course, which navigates Little League volunteers through real-life scenarios that are being faced in local leagues all around the world each year, coaches will have a better understanding of the impact they have on their players, both on and off the field.
