Boys Traveling Leagues

East Shore Rookies
1st & 2nd Grade Boys*
  • Entry-level travel league where the coach pitches using a hardball (no tee is used).
  • Goal is to  introduce proper hitting, fielding, and throwing fundamental skills while exposed to multiple positions and learning the basic rules of the game.
  • Focus is on basic skill development and sportsmanship while having fun. The score may be kept (determined by the home team) during regular season games, but is not the focus. Roster batting is required and near equal playing time is the expectation.
  • Games are typically on Friday nights.
  • The season ends with a league tournament where all teams elevate the level of competition and winning teams advance to play more games.
East Shore Minors
3rd & 4th Grade Boys*
  • Travel league where kid pitching is introduced at a 46’ pitching distance to home plate and 60’ bases.
  • Further development of hitting, fielding, and throwing. Fundamental skills are emphasized along with focus on learning position play and rules of the game.
  • The score is kept for regular season games, while emphasis remains on skill development and sportsmanship. Roster batting (not a league requirement) and near equal playing time is the expectation.
  • Games are typically on Friday nights.
  • The season ends with a league tournament where all teams elevate the level of competition and winning teams advance to play more games.
East Shore Little League
5th & 6th Grade Boys*
  • Travel league team where focus is placed on evaluation and definition of player skills at appropriate field positions with continued development.
  • Pitching distance remains at 46’ and bases remain at 60’. Competition levels and game speeds increase while sportsmanship is demonstrated.
  • This league features season-long competition to add to the development emphasis. Roster batting is typically used at this level but is not required pending the game situation and is at the discretion of the coach.
  • Games are typically played on Friday nights.
  • Regular season W-L records for all teams become meaningful throughout the season and are used for seeding teams at the end of year league tournament.
Mid-Shore League
7th Grade Boys*
  • Travel league with emphasis to develop skills towards high school level of baseball play, including goal to start definition of primary and secondary field positions.
  • Pitching distance is 54’ and bases are at 75’ to begin the transition toward the regulation size of a high school baseball field.
  • While roster batting is optional and allows flexibility in the field, it should not necessarily be expected at this level. Player substitution is at the discretion of the coach as a transition toward high school baseball rules needs to begin at some point within this level.
  • Games are typically played on weeknights and average 2 games per week.
  • Increasing emphasis on regular season game W-L records exist throughout the season with teams seeded at end of year for a single-elimination playoff to earn additional games.
East Shore Grader League
8th Grade Boys*
  • Travel league with emphasis to prepare players for high school level of baseball play, including continued definition and development of field positions.
  • Pitching mound distance is 60’6” and bases are at 90’ for a regulation size high school field.
  • Player substitution is at the discretion of the coach, with the goal to follow high school substitution rules in which players cannot be substituted freely in and out of games. This results in fair (not necessarily equal) playing time. The option for roster batting may present itself in situations but would not be the norm at this level.
  • Games may be scheduled any day of week (including Sundays) and average 2 games per week.
  • Increased emphasis continues on regular season game W-L records throughout the season with only the top tier teams allowed to advance to the seeded end of season playoff to earn additional games.
