Things to Know About Howell Central Little League
General Information about divisions:
Howell Central Little League offers a spring little league season for kids ages 4 through 16 across a number of divisions: T-ball, Pee Wee, Minor, Major, Junior, and Senior.
Tball (4-6 year olds)
- This is our non-competitive division
- Every kid bats every inning, we do not keep outs, or the score
- Each game is scheduled for 1 hour (typically 3 innings)
Pee Wee (7-8 year olds)
- This is a competitive 46/60 division (outs, runs, win-losses and playoffs)
- A manual pitching machine is used for the first 3 innings and is then followed by 3 innings of kid pitch
- Team bat their entire line-up but play only 9 kids in the field (sometimes 10 if coaches agree to 4 outfielders)
Minors (9-10 year olds)
- This is a competitive 46/60 division and all kid pitch
- Teams in this division participate in interleague play with teams from Howell South and North Howell
Majors (11-12 year olds)
- This is a competitive 46/60 division
- Teams in this division participate in interleague play with teams from Howell South and North Howell
Juniors (13-14 year olds) and Seniors (15-16 year olds)
- These are both competitive 60/90 divisions
- Teams in these divisions participate in interleague play with teams from many different leagues
General Information about the Schedule:
- The registration period typically opens in December and closes at the end of February.
- Teams are then formed and begin practicing in mid-March.
- Games usually begin in early-mid April with the regular season concluding around Memorial Day.
- T-ball games typically begin in late April so the weather is a little warmer for the younger kids.
- Playoffs begin soon after Memorial Day concluding in early June.
- All T-ball and Pee Wee games are played at Howell Central Little League (located on Old Tavern Road across from the Police Station)
- Minor & Major teams play interleague games with Howell South and North Howell Little Leagues, so some games will be at their complexes.
- Junior & Senior teams play interleague against a number of leagues so will play at multiple locations.
- Prior to the season beginning teams will typically practice 2x per week (possibly more depending on the coach's availability).
- When league play begins teams will typically play 2x per week. Once on a weekday and the once on Saturday.
- Weekday games typically begin at 5:30 PM for Tball, Pee Wee and Minor. Major, Junior and Senior are later, often around 7 PM.
- Weekend games typically begin in the morning and run through the early afternoon (depending on the schedule)
- Games are not typically scheduled for Monday or Friday, those dates are reserved for make-up games.
- Teams will typically continue to practice at least 1x per week (if not more) when games begin.
General Information about Equipment:
- Howell Central provides each child with a uniform that consists of a dri-fit shirt, hat, socks and belt
- Players must provide their own pants, preferrable gray with no pinstripes
- All players (except for Tball) are encouraged to have cleats (only players in the Junior and Senior Divisions can have metal cleats)
- All players mush have their own glove and baseball bat (all bats must have a USA stamp on them, BBCOR is permitted for Junior and above)
- USSA BATS ARE NOT PERMITTED
- Howell Central has helmets available but most players typically bring their own
