Hello parents and guardians,
Please read this information in its entirety so you’re able to make appropriate decisions
regarding your player’s level for registration. The following are changes that are being made to coach pitch and minor levels for Spring 2025.
Background
Over the past few seasons, we’ve noticed some skill development delays in players advancing to the Minor and Major level.
Through discussions with coaches and board members this developmental gap is related to the rules played during the regular season.
We have found that our Minor players are having a hard time adjusting to the rules and
strategy of play their first year of Majors, as with coach pitch players coming to Minors.
We’ve also seen a noticeable skill difference in our Minor All-Star teams when playing
other areas in our district.
Coach Pitch Changes
Starting this regular season, we will begin integrating Player pitching into the Coach
Pitch level.
This will be done in a phased manner to get the players adjusted to it.
The focus here will be getting players comfortable being at the plate against other
players pitching. There is no expectation that pitching development will occur at this
level.
It is solely a comfortability change, while also helping to begin the development of
catchers for the future Minor and Major divisions.
Our coaches will also begin to work on fundamental base running with the players.
Minor League
Over the past several seasons we’ve played by the Districts Minor Option A rules
during the regular season. Along with playing by these rules, we’ve also had many
“handshake” alterations to those rule sets as well.
Starting this season, Bloomsburg Little League, along with its surrounding inter-league partners (Central, Benton, Millville, RCV, and Catawissa) will play by Minor Option B rules
with no alterations.
Here is how that will change the game play:
1. No coach pitching. Pitchers will throw the full count (3 Strikes or 4 Balls). A batter
will hit, strikeout, walk, or hit by pitch.
2. Stealing of bases is permitted (even on a non-pass ball). This includes the
stealing of home when on third base.
3. A player may take a lead (per LL Handbook). Runner may take a lead once the
ball passes the batter.
To keep the pace of play up, a 5 run rule per half inning will still be in effect.
While we understand that these changes will naturally generate some growing pains the
first season it’s implemented, we feel that this will ultimately put the Bloomsburg Little League baseball program in a better place for the future.
Please consider these changes when you make the decision of which level you
feel your player is ready to be at this coming season.
Looking forward to a great season of baseball and softball this spring!
