Middletown-Cobb Little League

MCLL Volunteer Screening & Training Requirements

To protect players and comply with Little League International and California requirements, all adult volunteer roles in Middletown Cobb Little League (Board Members, Managers, Coaches, Umpires, Team Parents, Scorekeepers, and any other volunteer role) must complete the items below before participating. Training Links are posted at the bottom of the page.

All Managers/Coaches/Umpires should keep a copy of their completed training and submit proof of completion to MCLL Safety Officer  [email protected]

What’s required

Every season/annually:

1) Little League Volunteer Background Check (JDP)

Little League requires local leagues to conduct annual background checks for volunteers through J.D. Palatine (JDP) (Little League’s required provider). Once you register as a volunteer, you will be sent instructions to complete your JDP Background Screening.

2) Little League Abuse Awareness Training

All volunteers must complete the Little League Abuse Awareness Training course each year.

3) Volunteer Application + Photo ID verification

Volunteers, including Board members, must complete the Little League volunteer application each year, and the league verifies identity using a government-issued photo ID as part of the process.

4) DOJ Fingerprint Background Check (Live Scan)

All adult volunteers must complete a California DOJ fingerprint-based background check (Live Scan) as part of our California compliance process.

Please contact MCLL Safety Officer via email  [email protected] to confirm live scan clearance or to request MCLL Live Scan Form.

Role-based (required for some positions)

6) Concussion + Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) education

This education is required for volunteers serving as administrators, coaches/managers, and game officials (including umpires) under California youth sports law.

7.) Diamond Leader Training Program :

Required for Tournament Managers and Coaches, the Little League Diamond Leader Program focuses on ensuring children have a positive, well rounded experience on and off the field.

Live Scan frequency + subsequent arrest notifications

Live Scan is typically one-time for active volunteers

For our league, DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting is generally completed once and remains valid as long as you continue volunteering without a break in service.

Break in service policy (more than 1 year)

If you have a break in service of more than one (1) year, you must complete a new Live Scan before returning to volunteer.

(Screening information is handled confidentially and used only to determine eligibility to volunteer.)

How to get started

  1. Register as a volunteer and submit your volunteer application (photo ID verification required)

  2. Complete your annual JDP background check. ( sent via Sports Connect upon registration as a volunteer)

  3. Complete your annual Little League Abuse Awareness Training

  4. Complete   DOJ Live Scan (one-time unless break in service > 1 year) - if required, you will receive an email with instructions/form.

  5. If you are Board/Manager/Coach/Umpire: complete Concussion + SCA education  and Diamond Leader Training Program ( only required once, but annual review/training is recommended)
