For 53 years, the Longhorns have been the premier youth football and cheerleading organization in the Greater Collegeville area. The Longhorns are boys and girls from ages 5 to 15 from the Perkiomen Valley, Spring-Ford, and Phoenixville School Districts. We are proud members of the Bux-Mont League of Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading. The Bux-Mont League currently has seventeen associations located in Bucks and Montgomery counties and is the fifth largest youth football and cheerleading league in the country! With so many teams, we play different teams each week and every season presents new challenges!
Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading is the oldest and largest organization of its kind in the world. Pop Warner football has many advantages for its football players. At all levels of play, players will be playing against children their own age and weight! Pop Warner has rules that creates a fair and competitive game, which allows the coaches to teach the children the skill sets needed to maximize the player's ability and to increase their enjoyment of the game. In Pop Warner, each team is analyzed considering the years of experience of the players and how well they have done on the field in the past to be assigned a division of play. In this way, a typical first year player at age ten is not lining up against a skilled, five year veteran that is two years older and perhaps twice the weight as in "grade based" programs. For the younger children, Pop Warner does not allow "older/lighters" so children are playing against players their own weight, age, and most likely, years of experience. These are just a few examples of Pop Warner rules designed to assure the players' enjoyment of the game, and also allow the children to develop the necessary football skills in a competitive yet fair environment.
Also unique to Pop Warner teams is the incredible competitive experience offered during playoffs. As the children get older, both football players and cheerleaders compete for not only our local Bux-Mont championships, but regional and National Championships! As all Pop Warner teams throughout the United States play by the same rules, age and weight guidelines, a fair game results when a team from Pennsylvania faces a team from California.
The National Championships are held in Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Far fetched? Not so. The Bux-Mont League, which is comprised of teams from PIAA District 1 (which includes the PAC-10, Suburban One, and Chesmont leagues) is arguably one of the most competitive youth football leagues in the country. The Bux-Mont league has had teams compete for National Championships in Florida each of the past two seasons. From 201o through 2013, the Bux-Mont League had eight teams win Eastern Region Championships, including our Junior Pee Wee team!
The Longhorns play and practice at John T. Walsh Memorial Field located on Route 113 in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, directly behind VFW Post 7155 (just look for the tank). Our game and practice fields have lights. Our game field has a sprinkler system. We have a two story pressbox, a fully functioning snackstand, and a professional scoreboard. We have two padded cheerleading pads. All games have an announcer. The Longhorns players and cheerleaders have the premier facility in the area thanks to our primary sponsor, VFW Post 7155!
The Longhorns have always been and always will be an all volunteer, community based organization with the purpose of providing our members with the best possible youth sports experience. If you live in the Spring-ford, Perkiomen Valley, or Phoenixville School Districts, we are your neighbors. We have children from not only the public schools such as South Elementary, Upper Providence Elementary, Skippack Elementary, Oaks Elementary, Evans Elementary, Limerick Elementary, Schwenksville Elementary, Royersford Elementary, P.V. Middle Schools East & West, and Springford 5th-8th Centers, to name a few; but also from Catholic Schools such as Holy Family, Holy Cross Regional, BTC, and St. Mary's.
When we say we are Longhorns Nation, we mean that together everybody achieves more. Our diversity is our strength. Our dedication is our trademark. Our legacy is our children.
We are the Longhorns!
