Volunteer of The Year

2021 Southeast Region Female Volunteer of the Year Mrs. Beverly Perry

Mrs. Beverly Perry It was with great honor that the Union County Pop Warner Association nominated, and Putnam Athletic League seconded Mrs. Beverly Perry for the Southeast Region Pop Warner Female Volunteer of the Year.

Mrs. Perry has served as the League Cheer and Dance Coordinator for over nine years. During this time she has won a National Championship, been recognized as Cheer and Dance Coach of the Year, and this year the Southeast Region awarded her Female Volunteer of the Year for her contributions during the 2021 season.

Her Nomination Reads:
Currently, Mrs. Beverly is the Cheer Coordinator for Putnam Athletic League, Union County Cheer coordinator, Union County Coach of the Mitey-Mite cheer squad & lead compliance officer for Union County. As well as a long standing volunteer at Regionals and Nationals.

As we all know things have been different since the pandemic. Union County was struggling as a league in the cheerleading department. Aside from her countless duties as League Cheer Coordinator, Mrs. Beverly stepped up and has gone above and beyond to get things back on track for the Union County cheer program. This isn’t the first time Mrs. Beverly has brought a cheer program back to life. Most recently she volunteered and successfully restored the Palatka cheer program. In that program she acted as their coordinator and coached a cheer team who had no one step up for 6 girls to form a team. Most would have walked away from those six girls, but not Mrs. Beverly.  She truly believes no child left behind.

Mrs. Beverly began attending Union County association meetings in January and attended every single signup. She was instrumental in getting all of the paperwork that was needed for our cheer program. At the start of the season, she held countless coaches meetings that pointed all of the coaches in the right direction.

Due to a shortage of coaches Ms. Beverly stepped up to be the Mity-Might cheer coach when no one would volunteer. She drove daily from Gainesville to Union county (80 miles round trip) to lead the Mity Might girls through the season.

As the new Union County Cheer Coordinator she ran into many obstacles along the way. She was tasked with picking the right coaches and helping guide them along throughout the season. This was not an easy task. A lot of times she was treated as an outsider. Coaches would cause conflict and act as if they knew more than her. All the while ,and as long as anyone can remember, Ms. Beverly has always been the SOURCE for anything cheer in Putnam Athletic League.

Even with all of this, Mrs. Beverly never wavered. She dedicated herself to the girls and lead her team to become runner up at Regionals. She did this with very little support from the parents, as this was a team that had no intentions of going to Regionals. She helped raise money for all our cheer participants to attend regionals in style. She was also a volunteer for the Regional event itself.

All of this without letting any of her League Coordinator's responsibilities slip through the cracks. She hosted an outstand showcase that our parents were proud to attend, and even raised over $300 for the American Breast Cancer Society.

After Regionals, came Nationals and Mrs. Beverly again showed her dedication to her squad. As well as being a Volunteer for the national event, Mrs. Beverly got her little Mitey-Mite squad to achieve runner up nationally. To prepare the event she raise funds for 2 teams from Union County to attend Nationals making it possible for both squads to enjoy the events at Universal. These are events that these young ladies will always remember AND it would not have been possible without Mrs. Beverly.

As the dedicated Pop Warner volunteer and mentor that she is, she continues to coach her Union County Mitey-Mite team, (as we always hear her say “Cheer doesn’t stop in December, Cheer is year round") not necessarily to return to Nationals but to set the example for other cheerleaders and coaches Let’s not forget, it’s Volunteer of the Year, from January thru December.

One can not measure the depths of Ms. Beverly’s volunteerism. When she shows up, it’s 110%, and she always shows up!
Congratulations Mrs. Beverly for always setting the bar high and for always being our example.
