President's Welcome

Hello and welcome to Kalamazoo Soccer Club,

For over twenty five years we have been working to bring the best out of the youth athletes in the greater Kalamazoo area. We are affiliated with West Michigan Youth Soccer Association with teams competing at the Select, Elite and Premier levels. The fundamental goal of Kalamazoo Crew is to develop the desire in young people to have a lifetime of fitness and confidence through athletics. We seek to develop individual soccer skills in the younger player that will ultimately translate to the team setting at the older age groups. It is foot skills, soccer knowledge and individual play that ultimately provides the foundation for great players and teams. It is our mission to develop our players to excel at the high school level and beyond. Equally important is the development of respect for the game, teammates, coaches and referees. Our ambition is for KSC players to respect the game and play the right way; This provides an environment to develop self-respect and values in the youth player. Our mission is not to win at all costs, but win through the betterment of our players.

Kalamazoo Soccer Club seeks to provide the experience of travel soccer to all players by keeping our costs low, while still providing quality experience. We welcome youth players from all backgrounds and provide financial assistance where needed. By providing the opportunity for all young people to play the game of soccer ‘the right way’ we hope to develop young people who excel both on and off the field. We believe that providing an environment where young people can succeed both athletically and morally is a benefit to the greater Kalamazoo community.

We hope that you are interested in joining or continuing your experience in the Kalamazoo Crew Family.

Sincerely,

Chris Zook,
President

History

Kalamazoo Soccer Club (KSC) started in 1991. It was formed in affiliation with the West Michigan Youth Soccer Association (WMYSA) to provide high value competitive soccer teams for ages 7 through 19. Teams play 16 games -- 8 in the fall and 8 in the spring with several tournaments during the season. Approximately 300 players participate annually.

KSC has teams playing in WMYSA and the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program. Initially WMYSA had geographic restrictions so KSC players came primarily from the Kalamazoo and Parchment school districts. In 2007 geographic boundaries were lifted and KSC players now come from throughout Southwest Michigan.

KSC alumni have filled rosters of various colleges, currently including Bailey Cook of San Diego State University. Two of the most decorated alumni are Cassie Dickerson and Lindsey Cottrell. Cassie was the Big Ten defensive player of the year, an All-American, a soccer captain for both Ohio State University and the University of Kansas, and is now an attorney. Lindsey Cottrell was all Big Ten and Most Valuable Player and captain of the University of Michigan women's soccer team.
