LYSA basketball is back for the 2025-2026 winter season!
This program consists of four levels and areas of focus:
PreK/Kindergarten = INTRODUCTION
1st/2nd grade = INSTRUCTION
3rd/4th grade = DEVELOPMENT
5th/6th grade = COMPETITION
Of course, all of the areas of focus overlap, but these are the tenants of learning the game and ultimately having fun!

3rd-6th grade Youth Basketball League
Commitment: 2-3 days per week for approximately 14 weeks. Practice twice per week with games on Saturdays.
Dates: November 2025 through February 2026
Times: TBD--Coaches determine practice schedule based on their availability. Practices may be scheduled Sunday - Friday. Games are on Saturdays.
Location: Gymnasium at Southwest Elementary School
This developmental (3rd/4th grades) and competitive (5th/6th grades) youth basketball league features 5-on-5 play against members of the Mid-Continent Sports Association--West Platte (Weston), Dekalb, Mid-Buchanan (Faucett), North Platte (Dearborn), Platte County (Platte City), Smithville, Plattsburg, Lathrop, and East Buchanan (Gower).
This league is split by gender and grade.
Games are played on Saturdays from December through February.
The regular season is 8 games.
Optional tournament play is offered following the conclusion of the regular season.
Cost is $100 for the first child.
$10 discount for each additional child registered belonging to the same guardian.

2024-2025 3rd-6th Grade Basketball League Rules

Junior Cardinals: 1st & 2nd grade basketball
Commitment: 1 night per week for 6 weeks.
Dates: Thursdays; January 22nd through February 26th, 2026
Times: Each session is approximately 50-70 mins in duration. Schedule dependent on enrollment.
Location: The Barker Center at Lawson High School
Practice with coaches, followed by officiated 3-on-3 games to help with instruction.
Possibility of mixed-gender teams depending on registration.
Open to children currently in 1st or 2nd grades.

2026 Junior Cardinals Registration

Dates: Mondays; January 26th through February 16th, 2026
Times: Each session is approximately 45-60 mins in duration. Schedule dependent on enrollment.
Location: The Barker Center at Lawson High School
This opportunity is for children from age 4 (having turned 4 before 1/1/2026) through age 6 (currently in Kindergarten) and is intended to introduce the game of basketball through a camp-style format, utilizing stations to introduce fundamentals.
