Major Baseball

Ages:

  • 11-12

About This Level:

  • The Major Baseball division is a fundamental continuation of the 9-10 Minor Baseball division.  The program builds off instruction learned in the previous divisions with faster and stronger players.
  • Continued focus on basic skills such as catching, throwing, batting, bunting, fielding, base running and for those that want to, pitching.
  • Stronger players lead to faster pitching and harder hit balls.   Players will learn to focus on timing as a batter and other fundamentals of the swing.
  • At this level they should be learning more advanced game strategies, both offensive and defensive (such as when to or not to bunt) and learn to read and implement signals.
  • Teamwork and team loyalty is also important.  Strengths of each player are seen and utilized to improve the overall team.

Schedule:

  • Games: will be posted on our calendar and sent to you via your Coach
  • Practices: set by the Coaches
  • The League attempts to avoid Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday practice or game play

What they need:

  • Batting helmet (face protection recommended)
  • Glove
  • Cleats (no metal please)
  • Catchers are required to have athletic cup

What to Expect:

  • At the 9-10 level many players have not seen pitching from other players so there is a learning curve with batting and pitching.  Coach pitch is slower and players have to adjust to the change in speed.
  • At the 11-12 level the players have developed timing and physical ability for gameplay.  Pitching is faster and batting requires heightened focus and timing.
  • With all sports physical development is a factor in determining ability.  It is the coaches job to ensure your child's safety and in doing so determining the best positions for the children to play.  Infield play is fast and requires a defensive glove to ensure safety of the player.  The coach will evaluate every player and determine their ability to defend themselves at all positions.
  • Parents are expected to help with field set up and take down.
  • Kids should be on the field 15-30 mins prior to game start time.

Rules:

  1. Fair play is defined equal playing time for; infield, outfield and bench, except where safety is a concern.
  2. Games will be played with a continuous batting order.
