FCABSA Receives $200K Grant for Field Refurbishments

The Fox Chapel Area Baseball and Softball association (FCABSA) announced today it has been named a recipient of a $200,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund (GEDTF). The grant will be used to improve two ballfields located at Emmerling Community Park in Indiana Township. FCABSA applied for the grant to make improvements at the Emmerling Park facility earlier this year.

State Representative Frank Dermody, who represents the 33rd Legislative District which serves parts of Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties -- including many of the families that participate on FCABSA softball and baseball teams -- was instrumental in the process of obtaining the much-needed funding.

Representative Dermody presented the grant award to FCABSA players and board members at an event at Emmerling Park on Wednesday, October 7.

“One of the benefits of my work as a leader in the House of Representatives is being able to advocate for deserving local projects like this one and knowing exactly who needs to hear that message,” Representative Dermody said. “I was glad to get behind FCABSA’s grant application and am delighted that it was approved so quickly. I can’t wait to come back to Emmerling Park soon to watch boys and girls playing on these improved fields.”

Once the project is completed, it will give FCABSA three premiere ball fields at Emmerling Park for local youth to enjoy for many years to come.

“Growing up as a softball player, one of the best feelings was arriving at the park, seeing the fresh-cut grass, manicured fields and running out there with your teammates,” said Andrea Krushinski, President of FCABSA. “Kids everywhere should have that same opportunity in their local communities, and I’m thrilled that our players will be able to have that same experience I remember as a kid. I hope the impact on our community goes beyond refurbishing our ballfields and encourages young people to get outside and play, as well as motivate the members of our community to make a lasting impact on area youth that will stay with them for a lifetime.”

Additional details and specifics on the planned field refurbishments will be forthcoming at a later date.
