Thank you for your interest in learning more about volunteering with the Selinsgrove Girls Softball (SGS). During a season, over 100 young ladies participate in our softball sport programs. We are organized and run entirely by volunteers from the families of our participants.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Families are asked to participate as a volunteer in one primary role throughout the season.  THE CONCESSION STAND!  Families are welcome to volunteer in multiple positions if they would like, as a lot goes on behind the scenes and normally falls on the same few people.

How can I help??  Glad you asked!  Below is a list a of items that needs to be accomplished each season.

SELECTING YOUR VOLUNTEER ROLE
The process for selecting a volunteer position normally occurs during the sport registration process. Each sport season, when registering your child/children, you will be asked to make your family’s volunteer selection at that time.

GETTING TO KNOW THE ROLES:

CONCESSION WORKER

Volunteering as a concession worker is a fun way to fulfill the season's volunteer requirement.  It is fast paced and interactive.  Working concessions is also a great opportunity to meet other SGS parents.

  • Families are required to volunteer for ONE 2-hour shift per season, during a home game, as well as appropriate distributed time slots during league tournaments based on home fields.
  • Concession stand is one of our largest, most consistent fundraising opportunities of the season.  You'll be helping to ensure that these young ladies are able to play with the most up to date equipment as the league can afford!

HEAD COACH

Make a lasting impact in the lives of SGS participants. Volunteer Head Coaches are considered a role model for young athletes and are held to a high standard of sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation.

  • Represent SGS.
  • Have the knowledge and understanding of the League Rules and Expectations.
  • Abide by the Coaching responsibilities and expectations set forth by SGS.
  • Place the feelings of the participants first.
  • Place emphasis on the importance of sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Educate the young athletes of the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Assure good communication with parents and players, including communication by phone or email.
  • Provide a safe and fun environment for the children.
  • Attend all league meetings, practices and games (as required).
  • Supervise assistant coaches and parents.
  • Contact board members with questions, comments and concerns.
Coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete necessary background checks (as needed).  See Treasurer for current background check standing.
