Cheerleading Information

As these times are uncertain with the COVID-19 crisis, all dates and times are not set in stone yet, as things become concrete dates will be in bold.

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2021 Fall season of Midlothian Athletic Association Cheerleading. Whether you are a returning cheerleader or a first time participant, I’d like to extend my greetings to you and my hopes that this season proves to be a fun and rewarding experience.

Welcome to MAA Cheer!  I wanted to introduce myself as the MAA Cheerleading Director to our new families and welcome you to MAA Cheer!  If you are returning we are so glad to have you and your family back this season!
My name is Courtney King, a MAA cheer alumni, I am
a Virginia High School League certified cheer official,  married with 4 children, two boys and twin girls that also love being MAA cheerleaders *\o/*!
I’m looking forward to our upcoming season and to meet each and every one of our MAA Athletes.  My goals for this year are to welcome back many familiar faces and introduce new faces to the wonderful sport of cheerleading. As such, the goal of this program is to provide quality instruction of technique and safety in cheerleading, while teaching them the meaning of good sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation. But, most of all, we are here to have FUN!

We are a volunteer organization and the success of our program rests solely on the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, coaches and you, our parents! Thank you to all who have or will volunteer their time and talents this upcoming season.

Thank you all for supporting our wonderful program.  This year we have several fun things in the works!

One Team, One Dream!

  • We will also have an optional MAA tumble night once a week at FAME in August and September for $45 per month. Online waiver filled out thru FAME and payment cash or check made out to FAME turned into director.

Coaches:

If you are interested in Coaching, please notify the director. As we get closer to the season, Coaches are selected by the Cheerleading Director. All coaches undergo background checks through Chesterfield County and safety training prior to starting the season.

Season:

Pre-season practice for all squads begins the last week of July learning cheers and stunting technique. The season (sideline and competition) extends through the end of October/beginning of November.  All squads will cheer on the sidelines of their respective team’s football game and perform at halftime.  Athletes will have the opportunity to compete in several cheer competitions in addition to cheering at football games and performing at halftime. It is optional to participate in competition and athletes must commit to mandatory practice attendances. Athletes may choose to opt out of competition. All information will be presented at the parent meeting at the beginning of the season.

Practice:

Each squad will have practice time around the track behind Midlothian Middle School from 5:30/6-7:30/8 pm two weeknights a week  through the end of September outdoors. Flag typically ends around 7:30 once school starts. Starting in October we move to closed practices indoors to the Midlothian Middle School gym. Additional practice times may be required for competition squads.
Weeknight practices will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30/6-7:30/8.
Games:

Games usually begin the  Saturday after school begins. Games are played on Saturday mornings or afternoons. The Chesterfield Quarterback League sets the schedule and MAA has no control over when it is published, or any changes due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Occasionally, a Wednesday night game will be played, usually as a weather make up. On Saturday mornings, Flag begin at 9:00 AM followed by Minors at 10:00 AM, Juniors at 11:00 AM and Seniors at 12:00 noon. However, the actual starting times depend on the ending time of the previous game. For Saturday evening games, Flag plays at 5:00 PM followed by Minors, Juniors and Seniors in order. We do ask teams to arrive an hour before the game starts to warm up and practice.

Post Season Play:

Both conference winners and the six (6) teams with the next best records enter the playoffs in each division, Northern and Southern. The playoffs are single elimination and culminate with the “Superbowl” on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. There is no post season play in the Flag league. Cheerleading squads normally continue cheering as long as their associated team continues in the playoffs.

Our 2019 Minors, Juniors and Seniors were in the playoffs and we were so excited to be on the sidelines cheering for our amazing Junior football players!

Our 2018 Minors season went until the last game before the Super Bowl in the playoffs.  Our 2018 MAA Minor Football Team had incredible players and coaches with extreme heart.  We loved cheering for them every weekend. CQL took notice of MAA supporting our players and asked our Minor squad to cheer for the All Star game.  It was an amazing honor and we had a blast even in the cold!

Pictures:

Team and individual pictures will be taken late summer and may be purchased for an additional charge. These are usually done around the first week of school.

Fundraising:

Cheerleaders may be asked to participate in fundraising events (ie Stampede, homecoming) to support costs for gym time and competition fees.
