SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE

Practice begins late May or early June

During Spring Season your child will practice typically once a week with games on Sunday.

The actual days and times for any football practices are set by the head coach of each team after the teams have been formed, but most often, the practices are in the late afternoons or early evenings.

FALL FOOTBALL PRACTICE

Practice begins August 1st

During the month of August your child will practice four days a week, typically Monday thru Thursday for 2 to 2.5 hours per day.  Practice typically starts around 6:00 pm but will vary depending on the head coach.

The actual days and times for any football practices are set by the head coach of each team after the teams have been formed, but most often, the practices are in the late afternoons or early evening.

It is mandatory that your child attend all conditioning practices during that period of time to meet the required 10 hours of practice before they can begin contact practice.

After Labor Day, practices will be cut down to three days a week, plus one game every Saturday or Sunday.

Practice fields are subject to availability during the season. Practice field locations include Palermo Town Park and Mexico High Schools Open Field behind Mexico Elementary. Parents will be notified ahead of time which field they will be at by their head coach.  Please note, some teams may be moved to a different practice field during the end of the season.

We recommend that all families refrain from scheduling any vacations in August. The first month of practice is crucial for conditioning and understanding the basic fundamentals. All players and their families are urged to make a commitment to be available for all practices and games. Football requires a serious commitment at all age levels, and success can only be achieved if all players are present at practice working together as a team.

REGULAR SEASON GAMES

Games typically begin the first week of September, there is however one scrimmage game prior to the start of the regular season. Once teams have been created and certified by all CNY Pop Warner Associations, our CNY League will prepare schedules to be distributed to all of the associations. Game schedules are usually not published until late August or early September. Please keep in mind that game schedules are subject to change based on unexpected issues that may arise.

Mexico Pop Warner will notify all teams of their game schedule as soon as it is made available to the association.  A copy will be given to each Head Coach and Team Parent.  It is the Head Coach’s responsibility to ensure each player/parent is aware of the schedule.

All home games are played at our home field Palermo Town Park, with the exception of our Homecoming Game being located at Mexico High School’s Stadium Field, if possible.  Mexico Pop Warner will try to schedule games at Mexico High School’s Stadium if the fields are available, however, playing at the high school is not guaranteed.

Away games will be played at various locations throughout the CNY region. CNY Pop Warner League tries to balance out the schedule as best they can, so teams do not have too many away games. The other teams in the CNY Pop Warner League include Auburn Indians, Baldwinsville Bees, Central Square Redmen, Chittenango Bears, Cicero Falcons, Clay Panthers, Eastwood Bears, East Syracuse-Minoa Eagles, Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets, Fulton Raiders, Geddes-Westvale Knights, Kirk Park Colts, Phoenix Firebirds, Pulaski Surge, Oswego Buccaneers, Sherman Park Bulldogs, Toolon Tigers, Valley Stallions, and West Genesee Wildcats.

The schedule will list the locations of each game and the website will have links to maps and driving directions for each team’s field.

Fall season games are set to run until mid-October.  After October, teams that do not make it to the playoffs will be finished with the season and can then hand on their uniforms and equipment.

Please remember that safety is our top priority for all of our Mexico Pop Warner children.  Our Coaches and their coaching staff will always be on the lookout for any possible signs of injury.  No child will be allowed to play on the field if they have any injuries, unless cleared with a waiver by a licensed medical professional.

PLAYOFFS

The Season will continue through the end of October and possibly through early November, if your child’s team or squad enters regional and/or national championships.  All competitive tackle teams above the level of Mitey Mite are eligible for post-season play based on their league record.  Teams at the D1 level are eligible for local, regional and national championships.  Teams at the D3 level are eligible for local championships and regional championships with teams within the Eastern Region.

Any team traveling to a championship game is responsible for fundraising those costs, please be aware that the cost of traveling is not covered in the registration fees. There are many fundraising opportunities throughout the season, and limited funds are not always available to supplement the cost of post-season travel.
