FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I expect to pay to have a player participate in baseball?
Our registration fees generally run about $80 - 130 per player, depending on the division.  There are no additional costs for hats, jerseys, equipment or hidden fees.  We do not charge gate admission to watch your player's games.

How are teams formed?
For players in our tee-ball (6U - Shetland) and coach pitch (8U - Pinto) division, players may request to play with their friends or be randomly assigned to a team.  For players moving up into our Mustang (10U) or Bronco (12U) divisions, players will attend an evaluation and coaches will select teams consisting of a variety of different skill levels among players.  This creates parity in the league and distributes players of all skill levels across the teams in each division.  One of the foundations of the league is to allow players the opportunity to play against other teams/players of similar ability.

Will my players stay on the same team year-to-year?
Players will stay on the same team that they played with the previous summer when they return to the same division. Players moving up to a new division will be on a new team. Players moving into 10U or 12U from a lower division or players new to the PONY league will need to attend our evaluations to be placed onto a team.

When are games played?
Games are scheduled to be played starting in late-April/early-May and going until the end of June.  The regular season concludes prior to the 4th of July holiday.

What night(s) will my player have games?
Teeball (6U) - Saturday mornings; combined practice & game time
Pinto (8U) - Wednesday evenings
Mustang (10U) - Tuesday & Friday evenings
Bronco (12U) - Monday & Thursday evenings
PONY (14U) - Monday evenings

What can I expect at PONY League games?
The Dubuque PONY league promotes a family-friendly environment that allows players the opportunity to compete and have fun playing baseball.  The league does not charge admission to games.  No alcohol is permitted near the baseball fields.  All players will have the opportunity to participate in games.

Where are your games played?
All games are played at Derby Grange Golf for players in tee-ball through Bronco (12U) divisions.  The PONY (14U) division plays in the Little Prairie League, with home games at Veterans Memorial Park in Dubuque and away games in other small communities in the area.

When are practices?
Each team, except tee-ball, will have a 90 minute practice slot each week, which are generally on the weekends - due to field availability.  The exact day/time are up to the discretion of each team's coach.

What equipment will my player need?
The only equipment that each player needs is a baseball glove. It is a player/family choice on having their own bat and batting helmet (some are provided by the league or they may share with other players).  Players in the 8U division on up are recommended to wear cleats and have baseball pants. The league provides jerseys and hats for the summer season and just jerseys for fall ball.
