SAEBA Travel Basketball Program (Grades 3-6) Information
The SABEA travel basketball program provides an opportunity for the youth in the Shaler Area School District to engage in a more competitive basketball experience. Players interested in the travel program will need to register for the travel program and attend a mandatory tryout. At this tryout players will be assessed by independent evaluators that will rank and select the SAEBA travel players. In the event that a player is not selected for a travel team, the player will have the opportunity to be moved into and join the in-house program.
What to expect from the SAEBA Travel Program:
Season Length: Late October through mid-March.
Games: Teams will play in leagues that compete against other school district travel teams in the local area. In addition to league play, teams will also play in local area tournaments.
Practice: Players should expect at minimum two practices a week until game play begins. The option for more practices can be added throughout the season based on gym availability.
Playing Time*** - During league games, coaches will do their best to provide equal playing time. In tournament pool play games, coaches will do their best to provide equal playing time. In league playoffs or tournament playoffs, equal playing time is not guaranteed.
Communication: Coaches will be urged to use the Dick's Sporting Goods GameChanger app to communicate with parents and players about practice times, game times, and any other pertinent information.
***Attending practice is an expectation throughout the season. Missing practice can result in a loss of equal playing time throughout the season and will be at the coach's discretion. (Examples of valid excuses for missing practice include illness, injury, and family emergencies. Examples of invalid excuses for missing practice include: birthday parties, being too tired, or just not "feeling it" today.)
